Does Covington Catholic have the biggest home field advantage in KY high school?

Featured Replies

I have talked with former Beechwood football players about this and they say yes, the Saturday afternoon games at Cov Cath are horrible. They don't like the time of day - Saturday afternoon. They don't like the heat that usually goes along with playing at that time. They don't like the change in routine to the weekly schedule. Do you agree? Does CCH have the biggest home field advantage in KY? If not, who does and why?

As to this point, I would think it impacts Cov. Cath more over the course of a season than any single opponent.

I like Saturday games, as it gives you the opportunity to see two games (Friday nights) on the weekend.

New Cath also plays home games on Saturdays, as does Bishop Brossart.

Perhaps occasionally, right? Not every home game.

Neither NCC nor Brossart play Saturday games with any regularity. I think they both play 1 Saturday afternoon game this season and Brossart plays two Thursday night games.

I dislike the crowd aspect as much as the heat, routine, sun, etc. Nothing beats Friday night under the lights with a big crowd.

True but even when NCC and Brossart play on a Saturday, they usually still play it at night right? When teams have to play at CovCath on a Saturday, it is during the day correct? And since CovCath gets to do that for each home game, they are better prepared for it.

There are a bunch of former players on here that did that a time or two in their careers, what say you?

Fair point. Yes, I believe Cov Cath is the only afternoon home game that I know of.

For a short period of time, Holy Cross had the last two games of the year scheduled for 1pm Saturday starts, but field availability and refusal of the opponent to play at that time caused location and date changes.

Johnson Central has a pretty good home field advantage- tall grass and a leaky hose. I kid.

I remember playing CovCath way back in the day when they first opened their field. Of course CovCath wasn't very good then, so it didn't bother us, but I'm sure that it has been an advantage to them for the better part of the last 25+ years. Kids are creatures of habit, take them out of their normal routine and all heck breaks loose!

I want to make sure no one misunderstands the above statement, the fact that CovCath has been awfully good the last few decades also plays into that home field advantage....a lesser team maybe not so much.
