NBC, FOX, CBS, or ESPN?

Featured Replies

I honestly don't pay enough attention to them to even know who is on what channel for the most part. I do like Collinsworth and Michaels, which ever channel they are on.

NBC's production seems so much better than the other networks. Perhaps that's because they only show one game per week, although ESPN only shows one. CBS and FOX have their moments, although to me it is often about who the broadcast crew is. And as another poster mentioned, I loathe all the trinkets FOX uses (robot, Siragusa, over-the-top product placement).

NBC seems to have more commercials imo. Seems like more commercials than actual football.

Can't stand Buck and Aikman. I like Nantz, but Simms is grating. Tirico is excellent, Gruden is OK. Michaels and Collinsworth are easily the top.

That's probably true. They also have a captive audience, which allows for more advertising. But I do hate that Sunday night games don't go off until so late.

ESPN

CBS

NBC

FOX

That order for me.

I like NBC the best in terms of production, pre and post game shows, and of course Al and Cris. I was disappointed to learn that Cris is no longer on Inside the NFL.

Fox is probably my least favorite but that could have something to do with covering the NFC vs. the AFC.

I like CBS just fine, I like Nantz and Simms.

I like Tirico and Chucky when he isn't in love with everyone and everything. On a side note, I am getting to where I like ESPN as a brand/franchise less and less.

Heck, I like Mike Mayock and assume he is getting bumped out because of CBS doing Thursday night games.

I prefer to hear broadcasts from former players whether it's Collinsworth in football, Joe Morgan in baseball, etc... They seem to know more from having played the sport and have better insight. JMO

I HATE female sideline reporters. What do they know about playing football?! :taz:

Considering we cant get Fox at the moment, they have to be last for now. Also there announcers seem to make the most errors during a game, like they are not as prepared.

ESPN seems to want to make a big spectacle for the one game a week they do. Kinda turns me off a little, probably why a switch back and forth between the monday game and wrestling.

CBS is ok.

NBC does the best job IMO.

What did Howard Cosell know about playing sports? Nothing.

Nah.

Talent is talent. Some folks can broadcast and some folks can't. Lots of former players that have no business being anywhere near a headset. Lots of folks that never went beyond middle school as a player that know how to call a game brilliantly.

I agree but it's still just my preference. Maybe it's because I never played sports and trust what a former player has to say over someone else who never played. I agree also that some former players have no business in broadcasting!

I am biased because I played Little League baseball with Simms and favor him. I haven't seen or talked to him in 40 years, though. I just shake my head when I hear him because he was just a stupid little kid that did dumb things like all of us when I knew him. One highlight with "Whitey" as we called him. When we were playing Senior League Baseball in Okolona we had a triple play. Guys on first and second and the batter bunts a line drive to Whitey who was pitching. The runners were moving. I was playing short, he threw to me at second and I threw to first for the TP. That may be the only highlight of my rather woeful athletic career.

I do like NBC both Michaels and Collinsworth. I like Aikman but not Buck. I like Tirico and just can't stand Gruden (he rarely calls a player out even when it is pretty obvious, although he gets on the refs too much). Nantz is the best 2nd best of all time behind Enberg in my book.

ABC (college football, the picture is always blurry)

It's fashionable to say you hate ESPN and everyone on it but they are not a successful organization because they employ all inept buffoons. The question was about game coverage and the commentating with it for NFL games. Tirico is the consummate pro and Gruden I think is great. I feel the same about Collinsworth and Michaels.

I seldom get caught up in commentating or let it deter my experience. None of them really bother me all that much.

Good... A lady said it first, so I can agree. :lol2:
