This article shows that UL borrows $ from their schools general funds just for athletics. UK doesn't have to do that. As a matter of fact, they donated $3 million in academic scholarships.

UL also borrowed a ton of money from us taxpayers I believe for the YUM Center, which is on its way to bankruptcy I believe. Don't worry though, the tax payers will pay the junk bonds, while UL gets the rights to buy it back after bankruptcy.

 

Meanwhile UK couldnt get the state to fund $50 million for the city of Lexington for upgrades to they area around Rupp arena, even though UK was willing to spend $300 million of their own money to renovate the facility.

 

I'm a fan, but to call me an apologist is reaching hard. I hate Rick Pitino more than most UK fans.

 

Plus, this is a UK thread and I've avoided discussing them. All of my posts have been about UK, and about helping UK get better in football. You should get past who's posting and look at what I'm actually saying. To their credit, there have been a number of UK fans in this thread who have at least partially agreed with me. That said, I haven't read many of your other posts but right off the at you seem like a troll to me.

I agree a little with you about scheduling, but not to the extent of giving up a home game or playing a suicide schedule, ala an sec calibre team. Like I said, a team like Marshall or cinci would do the trick.

He very well may, but if he does that means UK is moving in the right direction. That said, Stoops grew up not that far from Lexington and can see his friends/family whenever he wants. He also seems like a man of pride, that I expect would like to make a name for himself. A good way to do that would to be to build a traditionally unsuccessful program into a contender. If he does that I imagine UK throws him enough cash to keep him happy. If he does leave on his own, it will mean we are in a lot better shape than they have been in a long time.

Jim spends an unhealthy amount of time worrying about who UK plays in basketball and football. If I remember correctly he claimed UK's basketball schedule wasn't preparing them for the NCAA tournament.

 

I say schedule 3 teams you can beat and get bowl eligible. Playing another strong team will not get you prepared for the SEC. It will only get you beat up physically which UK cannot afford.

I don't know Jim too well. But as far as scheduling your right. The key for UK right now is bowl games, which equals money and recruiting benefits. Which equals more money for the football program and a better chance of landing top recruits.

 

Giving up the money of a home game to go on the road and play an OOC, SEC caliber team makes no sense to me. UK already has the 6th toughest schedule in the NCAA. To make it tougher before turning the corner would be borderline insanity in my opinion.

The closest I've seen to agreeing with you is someone saying it'd be nice for attendance to get home games against Marshall, Cincinnati, etc. but not worth it to give up a home game.

 

I'm sorry that I can't take your suggestions serious when you pretend like you care about the success of UK sports. You stated your opinions on scheduling, then turned your focus to $ spent. When others post actual numbers,or point out UK fired joker and is doing 10 fold better since Stoops in regards to recruiting, you know, what they call "facts", not numbers off the top our heads or blanket statements like "UK spends more on basketball and that's the problem", you just ignore it. So...sorry, I don't think there is one ounce of sincerity in your body when it comes to wanting UK to improve. If they continue to improve what will you do to get your kicks on ruffling the feathers of UK fans who actually bite on your "sollutions"?

I said that, and would like to see it, If nothing else it will generate more money, and I doubt UK would lose those games at this point. Jim's idea of adding another SEC caliber opponent however, is insane.

^I'm with you! Marshall would be an interesting game and so would Cincinnati. UK used to play Indiana regularly I thought.

 

On a side note with zero possibility of happening. It'd be neat to see UK have some late season home/away with a basketball school like Duke, UNC, UConn, etc. Play the football game during the day and basketball that night. That'd be fun for the fans.

UK Football is the bread winner for the school. Supports 20 other sports teams at the University. That's enough for me.

Uk hada chance then where they were in the program to get a coach to possibly help get them to take another step forward and instead they and the majority of the fans accepted staying mediocre at best. Shoot I got tore up on here by people for saying uk was screwing up just handing the job because I wanted them to take the next step. Yet people even were saying that uk probably cant get bettrr than that and so they thought joker could keep them there instead of wanting to get a coach to try at least to take a another step forward. However as jim has said the peoplein charge and majority of fans were fine with being mediocre at best and juat trying to make a bowl. That philosophy needs to change and I do think it has some now.

Bull crap, Joker was considered a step up because many thought he would build on the success that Brooks had at UK. Joker was at the time a highly thought of OC and recruiter, UK had a top 20 offense while he was the OC. Plus, being a former UK player and taking over a program that was on the rise was a reason for fans to be excited. There is nothing from his past coaching jobs that would have suggested he would have fallen on his face like he did, of course hindsight is 20/20.

 

 

Going into their head coaching careers, there is no difference between James Franklin and Joker Phillips, unfortunately UK didn't hit the home run, but not you or anyone else could have predicted which one would have been the better choice. If you are/were able to have that kind of foresight you would not be on here posting about it.

 

 

Going to three straight bowl games, no matter the size at UK is a big deal, trying to dismiss that is just an attempt to compare them to other top level SEC schools and not the rest of the SEC schools. Also, before Brooks trying to just make a bowl should have been the goal, short term yes, should we have upset or ticked off for making the Music City Bowl? NO! Gimme a break! I guess since it was not three straight SEC Championship games it was a failure.
