August 31, 201412 yr Until Kentucky quits spending more on a preseason basketball practice than their entire football recruiting budget, you can't use this as an excuse unless you're willing to put the proper pressure as fans upon the athletic department to get serious about football. You guys can't compete with Alabama and LSU on the recruiting trail because fans are satisfied with the status quo. And Alabama and LSU can't compete with UK on the basketball trail. It's a 2 way street
August 31, 201412 yr I for one love how UK scheduled this year, it builds up really nicely to the important games. UT Martin, then Ohio, to get you ready to play UF. Every single school in the country schedules cupcakes, don't know why UK should be no different. Yeah, Ohio U should do wonders for preparing UK for what it's going to see from Florida.

I'm just asking if UK was mediocre at best those years, what was UL. They had some decent years in there. What you are describing UK as is what the majority of other schools in the Big 5 conferences are. Each conference has anywhere from 2-5 consistently good programs, and the rest are average most years, poor some years and from time to time have good years.

UL was always on the early schedule, and with them being the power house they are, why didn't it it prepare them better for the SEC gauntlet? There's no real demand from the fan base to be relevant at football. Instead of automatically going into the default mode of "I can't wait for Midnight Madness" when the first blowout loss comes on the gridiron, UK fans should hold Barnhart and Co's feet to the fire to fix the long-festering football problem. As it stands now, you guys are clearly fine with mostly bad and every so often mediocre football.
