Only partly true, but anyway. If you read Mark Story's piece about Howard Schnellenberger today, ol' Howard says the exact same thing I do. UK fans are satisfied with mediocrity in football. Always have been.

But they would have to play home and home, I don't think either is willing to give up a pay day of a home game.

 

Better mid majors on the schedule would be good. But face it, no one would have been shocked if today's game was 17-13 either.

 

With the money that's coming in from TV contracts, playing proper home-and-home series will be much more common going forward in the Big Five conference world. We're not far off as it is.

If you're rebuilding every single year, forever, you can't really call it "rebuilding." There's never been a foundation.

Well a couple of games against the "Blind Sisters of the Poor" isn't what has been the problem with this team the last few years.

 

Kentucky has rarely had (and they still don't have) talent across the board to compete at the highest levels consistently. In the best of times UK had some SEC caliber players starting but there was a big drop off from the #1's to the #2's. In the Grand Scheme, DEPTH or lack there of...has been UK's biggest issue in football. The top teams just keep rotate fresh players on D without a drop off in talent like UK has.

I for one love how UK scheduled this year, it builds up really nicely to the important games. UT Martin, then Ohio, to get you ready to play UF. Every single school in the country schedules cupcakes, don't know why UK should be no different.

Until Kentucky quits spending more on a preseason basketball practice than their entire football recruiting budget, you can't use this as an excuse unless you're willing to put the proper pressure as fans upon the athletic department to get serious about football. You guys can't compete with Alabama and LSU on the recruiting trail because fans are satisfied with the status quo.

The "realist" in you should be telling you that UL's relevancy is equal parts coaching, recruiting AND the conferences they've played in up till this year.
