Love how you use SK's success as a Humbling thing. I remember the days where SK didn't win a game in 3A let alone not lose in 4A. It means that the program has made some huge strides.

 

Just find it strange that SK doesn't recognize Football before 2004 according to their Athletic website. Maybe I was looking in the wrong place but I couldn't find it. Surely hope that was a mistake because it's a total lack of respect to the young men who helped build that program in the early years.

Those figures included playoffs, I think it was 2-1 or 2-2 vs NKY opponents but am not sure. I guess I have a more discriminating opinion of what domination involves, I agree they are the best of NKY 6A over the past several years, for what that's worth.

You know what, I think the Simon Kenton Pioneers will have a fine season. Good luck to them this coming year. I hope they represent Northern Kentucky well if they get out of the District. We shall see

Those numbers don't add up. If you go by your 8-8 record before last year, that is 16 games, 4 per year, all regular season games.

Have you seen where this program was 10 years ago? Scheduling is an evolution with a trillion other variables.

 

How many SK kids have left for HC after this game was scheduled? Not many? exactly. Was it scheduled for that reason? who knows. Maybe the AD's are friends. Maybe it's a game between two teams from the same county....maybe it was to replace Scott when they begged out.

This is the part that people just don't get. Scheduling isn't as simple as calling someone up and saying "let's play" (although it can be). There has to be a mutual interest, and a common open date. And travel time/cost/convenience are a factor. Look at all the complaints/issues from last weekend about games not getting made up, the number one problem being travel time. There are a bunch of teams in Northern Ky (and while maybe not all great, they are mostly competitive), and many natural rivalries. It makes sense for these teams to play each other rather than scheduling 2 or 3 2 hour trips per season. And while scheduling tough teams can make you better, it also gets you beat up sometimes. Plenty of teams have been able to make deep playoff runs without packing their schedule top to bottom with hammers.

As far as scheduling goes, I always thought 6A and 1A teams always get the short end of the stick. 1A teams always have to play up for their out of district games and 6A always has to play down until district games starts unless they are willing to travel a good distance a lot of time. They also have schools in the area that think they should always play because of local rivalries etc such as BW and CCH or Ryle and Cooper etc.

 

With that said, when their are teams in the area that would give better games than others such as CCH or HHS as a opponent for SK instead of HC, well that will always be an argument.

 

I don't care about who SK schedules. The only time it would matter to me is if uk#1fan was SK's coach, then he'd have to out his schedule where his mouth is.

NKY 6A is weak compared to the Louisville schools. As a whole, NKY 6A does well with the other districts and regions. My point about SK is that they have advanced further in the playoffs than the other teams....last man standing point of view.

I agree that scheduling is somewhat of an evolution. Don't kid yourself, coaches look at other rosters and say "thanks, but not this year coach" when offered to schedule series with other schools. Conversely, teams can struggle to get worthy opponents also and are stuck with less than competitive match-ups, but remember HC won a state championship a couple of years ago(when this game was likely scheduled) but are of far different talent now.

I am glad to see SK getting some schedule changes that may include HHS & Covcath next season. Maybe their coach stop saying "no thanks" when he did a roster check. :idunno: They will both be 5A next year so maybe that 4A comment would work; but be careful what you ask for.......:sssh:

 

SK has made nice strides as a program and they are trying to build on that..........they could make a case for being the premier 6A team in NKY if they take care of business in the next couple of years. Let's stick with what we know til then.
