Just befuddles me how this game even gets scheduled.

 

They call these games in college football "money games"

 

Small Akron OH goes to the Shoe every year and plays their hearts out only to lose by 50. The pay is good and the experience is nice on National TV for the small school but hey SK ain't paying HC $500k plus or anything for that matter and HC certainly isnt gaining any National exposure by playing this game.

 

Ever notice how those "money games" are always a Home and Home deal for the big boys...for obvious reasons of course.:thumb:

 

These are the types of games that sorta kill the whole SOS numbers imo, even at the college level

In the seemingly 1000's of posts on SK scheduling no one has considered how much playing time JV has been getting in these blowouts. There has been a lot of opportunity for younger to get game players reps and experience they would not be getting otherwise.

Experience? Isn't that why they play JV Football. I agree with you to a point. But i would say SK JV players will get more by practicing against SK 1's compared to playing holy cross any day. Simon kenton gets nothing out of playing holy cross besides a W.

JV also got substantial playing time against Ryle, Cooper and Bullit Central last year.

JV getting playing time against HC is a really good thing because Beechwood decided not to play SK's JV team this Saturday.

SK was supposed to play Beechwood JV on Saturday 8/30 but that was cancelled/postponed because Beechwood/Mt Healthy Game was moved to Saturday. Maybe JV will get enough time vs HC on Friday night.

I know. thats why agree. It can be beneficial. But another question to you. If your JV gets a lot of playing time during varsity games because of lopsided results. Does that end up being a bad thing later on in the season when your varsity team gets into a tough playoff game it will hurt the team overall because your varsity team never plays a full time game?

SK was tested last year by Collins. Campbell and Dixie twice.

4 games out of 13? Campbell Co was 56-35? I know it was a good game. I know it's not their fault because Ryle, Boone were both bad teams. But I would rather go 7-3 and play a good schedule. Loose a few close games to quality teams and be ready for the louisville butlers in the regional final. Than go 10-0 and loose in the playoffs.

Would not have mattered if SK played a gcl schedule. To get to the next level, SK needs to improve team speed. That is the Achilles heel of the program, not scheduling. Every team SK has lost to in the playoffs they lost because the opponent was faster. No level of scheduling will fix this.

well then it is what it is. Because boy from Independence Ky will never be faster than the boy's in Louisville. At least in overall team speed.

I knew there was a back-story to UKFan's post........usually is.

I'm not saying I'm defending scheduling this game or scheduling cupcakes throughout the season. But if you're good, you're good. Scott County played a terrible schedule last year, playing only one team with a winning record. They somehow how managed to survive the "rigors" of 6A football. If it was all about schedule, Trinity would have won things going away last year.

 

Great point and hard to argue against. I feel that if your team has a lot of speed like Scott Co did last year then playing the top notch teams isn't as important. SK last year had a team with great chemistry and talent but not enough game speed. I do think they could have benefited from seeing more speed throughout the season.
