My thoughts on play calling?

 

1 - Cove's / Beatty's history on play calling is one that can hardly be matched. So I give a pass when plays don't work in the 1st or 4th quarters

2 - there appeared to be a lot of mis-plays, be it dropped, balls miss blocks, poor execution on hand offs, etc.

3 - we are still looking for a leader.

First of all, I'm down here with some business guys - MBA guys - and we went to the game.

 

Was not even close to being a catch and we were standing right there by the play. One of the guys I was with was chatting at the time with some Ensworth guys that had walked over and even they said "We got one there."

 

Unsportsmanlike was on two players...and the first was just because the player jumped up and the ref was right there. Second one seemed like he said some words. But still had chances to win.

 

Ensworth might not have looked good on the video...but they are a really good team. Talked to some of the folks after the game and they felt like Trinity was MUCH better this season and they are on defense. Not even close....way better team.

 

QB will be fine..a lot to ask of a sophomore in his first start. Top 20 team nationally they were playing and had a chance to win it in the end. They will be just fine folks.

 

As far as the play calling, one DB going to Alabama and the other going to Vandy and the third might end up being the best of them all by the time he graduates. Prolly smart not to take too many chances down the field.

In the article in today's paper Coach Beatty said the ball was trapped and ....."our kids got excited." So maybe both calls were on players and not one of them on a coach. If I remember correctly, the ball actually went through one receiver's hands before being caught/trapped by the other. Ensworth has won four straight state titles in Tennesseee.

Ensworth edges Louisville Trinity

 

Louisville Trinity running back Donald Brooks said it best: "Ensworth finishes well."

 

The Tigers scored two touchdowns in the fourth quarter and then held off the visiting Shamrocks 21-14 in the season opener on Friday night.

 

Trinity has won 22 state titles in Kentucky, and Ensworth has claimed the past four Division II-AA championships.

 

The Shamrocks drove to the Tigers' 21-yard line with 1:31 left, but Ensworth's defense held.

 

"I just knew somebody would eventually step up and make a play," Ensworth cornerback/running back Donovan Sheffield said.

That's the guy.

Wright & Coverdale are best of friends. He also chose to be on Beatty's staff at the High School All American game a few years ago.

For Trinity to lose only by 7 to Ensworth on the road is pretty impressive. I know a program like Trinity never accept moral victory but they must have gave a great effort last night.

Trinity will plow anyone in KY from here on out.

Yes, Coach Wright led Trinity in the late 90s. Last night Carmel beat Hamilton Southeastern 14-7. Maybe they had a tuff nite too because Southeastern is Freeman-rated 25IN/1220US against Carmel's 4IN/90US ... if that means anything.

 

Trinity v Carmel will be an excellent game next week. Coach Wright was very well liked at Trinity & is a fine mentor for young men. Carmel lost by a lousy point 7-6 in the 2013 Indiana big-school final to, I think, Warren Central. Carmel had to settle for 2 fg's.

^ sideline interference on a questionable catch by Ensworth.....I can't really say if it was just, but we were given a warning earlier in the game....so....then Reisert started jawing with an official and got another 15.......it ended up being about an 8 yard play (that was not a first down), turned into a 26 yard penalty...and a first and goal. Back breaker.

 

You have to have sideline control..No matter how bad the stripes might be - cannot violate those sideline rules. You will regret it if you do.

Yeah, Manual, Male, and X are shaking in their boots at the thought of having to play T and their mighty offense with a 5'6 QB. Last year you lost by 1 to an Ensworth team that had a better RB than this year's team did and the same DB's. Then you kept playing that admittedly brutal schedule and got beat up by it...which is what will happen again this year and probably worse this time around because you're even thinner this year than you were last year. I said it last year, and I'll say it again this year, there are no Hatchers, or Quicks, or anyone even close to that level of player on these T teams. Welcome back to earth Trinity. Can you beat everyone in KY on any given night? Yeah, you're still good enough that if all goes right for you, then you can beat anyone. Will you? No, probably not. Plow everyone? :lol2:
