For me, THE MOST important thing for you to do first is go see a CovCath game in their home gym in Park Hills!

 

To do this right though, you need to make sure you do the following:

 

1.) Go early and visit the Skyline chili just up the street. You will probably not be the only BGP'er in there

2.) Sit on the visitor side!! This way you will be able to fully appreciate what the CovCath Crazies do! (bring earplugs if you have sensitive eardrums)

I'm sorry, but I strongly disagree with this statement. Drew McDonald is way more of a "must see player" than Snapp. And, I know he is not in the 9th region, but Dre Jackson is in NKY and he would be on my list of "must see" players as well.

 

Ethan is a good shooter (when he is hot) and he will pull up from anywhere on the court, but I doubt he puts up the same kind of numbers on most other teams... A.) because there would be other scoring options and B.) most other coaches would not be as giving with that kind of freedom.

 

Drew McDonald is the second best player in the region if not the best. I enjoy watching him. I think Snapp is more exciting to watch and Snapp has to carry his team on his back to win more often than McDonald does. For me, that makes Snapp more exciting to watch and why he gets "must-see" status from me.

I agree with this. I love kids with in the gym range. That makes Snapp fun to watch; however McDonald brings his lunch bucket and just gets it done. A big to build a team around.

In another thread it was mentioned to me that since I am new to NKY and live in the 9th Region, to get out and see as much of the basketball as possible. So what are the must see things? Players to watch? Good coaches? Best gyms/atmosphere? Best rivalry games? Traditions? I am open to any suggestions and appreciate the feedback. I love high school hoops and am not picky about size/type of school. Thanks!

If you are truly a high school hoops fan, just get out there and start making the rounds to different games and districts. You will find a good game and a good rivalry just about any night of the week. Know that every ball player and coach is working hard to get ready for their games, so sit back and enjoy their efforts. The best games are the ones where you have no preconceived expectations.

I know there are a lot of rivalries all over the state and we are not big schools by any stretch but when my polar bears and the panthers of Augusta lock horns you can throw out the records and the recent history because theses two teams alway bring out the best of each other. Never quite seen an atmosphere like it at any game I've ever been too. And it dose not matter which gym they play at. With that said the igloo seats a huge amount more ppl. It's like the whole county is in one gym to watch a ballgame. It awesome at Augusta's gym but you better get there early or you will not get a seat.

This might be an unfair and too subjective question, but within the 9th Region are their big schools that typically underachieve and some small schools that overachieve? For instance, in Cincinnati, you have Oak Hills High School that has 3000 plus kids walking the halls, but when it comes to athletics they are never very good. Which blows me away that you can have that many kids and not be better. The excuse is that the Catholic schools steal their players, but you can't tell me with 3 middle schools, and 3000 students, you can't be more competitive. Is there anything like that in NKY? I know this is a KY website, and I didn't mean to control my post with an Ohio school, but I am just trying to get a feel. I know names of KY schools from living close in Ohio, but really don't know much about the programs and such. Thanks again in advance.

In NKY there isn't any mega-size schools like Oak Hills. I guess largest NKY school is Campbell County with about 1600. That might be substantially larger than other teams in their District but I would not say there are any large schools that constantly under-achieve.

That is great about the sizes of the NKY schools. I didn't realize that. There are several schools just north in Ohio that are close to 3000 (Oak Hills, Fairfield, Mason, the Lakota's). I think it is great that the school sizes are not that big.

Not to get to in the weeds but NKY has several independent school districts (think cities) and also has county schools so that keeps the size of schools down. Plus growing areas like Boone Co opened a new school (Cooper) not too long ago. It really is a little silly that there are so many high schools so close to each other.

Snapp's a good player but he is not even on the same level as Bolden. I would watch Bolden and Covcath team and Newcath's team play if I was new to 9th region.

 

Obviously your opinión and I agree Bolden is a better player right now but dont be surprised to See Snapp go off the next 2 yrs and avg 30ppg. Kid has sick range and is a gamer. If You like offense than go Watch him play. Dont limit yourself to a few top teams. Heck, get in the car and Drive down to Augusta to visit their gymnasium. It has a Hoosiers feel to it. Go Watch Brossart/Campbell Co play, Its a huge game every year. Its kind of cool that within a 30 Mile radius you have 3 Regións represented. So you can See teams from further south who will travel up to play games with their Regional foes.

May be a little south of here and not sure of the schedule but if you have a chance to go and watch Carson Williams play from Owen County he is definately worth the drive to Owne and the price of admission.
