Anyone have an up close view of the pass interference call in the second quarter in the south end zone?

 

Please tell me what you saw.

 

This is my take. Trinity passes the ball into the end zone - the flag was thrown and a few of the guys around me were complimenting the Trinity receiver for tackling Abner to make sure it was not intercepted. It was going to bring up a 4th and 7 or if the penalty accepted 3rd and 17. We were wondering if HHS would accept the penalty.

 

The official signaled pass interference on the defense. I was sure he just pointed the wrong way. Nope. They walked it off against the Birds and it gave Trinity a first down, the Rocks went on to tack on a score to make it 24-0 at that time.

From the Trinity section I saw the Highlands defender pull down on the arms of the Trinity receiver before the ball arrived. I immediately thought defensive pass interference. But I am a Trinity supporter.

 

Was watching from the endzone where it happened and the HHS defender never looked back for the ball and pulled the Trinity players arms down when the offensive player looked back for the ball.

So the defender pulled the wide receivers arms down and then turned completely around and almost caught the interception? That was definately offensive pass interference if I have ever seen it. It wasn't even close! That was bad!

My impressions of the scrimmage.

First off the blackened fish sandwich at the 915 Pub and Grill was excellent. Great service there. Also spoke with some of the other customers and some seniors from Highlands on the walk to the stadium and had a great time. Sensed great community spirit.

Trinity's running game looked very good. Lots of talent there. Harper at QB did good managing the game and his short to intermediate throws were pretty accurate. Wished we would have seen Young a little more but I guess they were getting ready for next week. The receivers showed good hands and moves after the catch. O-line seemed to do a good job but thats something the tape tells more about how they did.

Trinity's defense looked good. The line held Highlands running game in check. The linebackers are active and move quickly to the ball. The DB's are athletic and did good to stay with the receivers given how long they had to cover with Hoge extending plays as long as he did.

Trinity's kicker is very good. Glad the punter did not get hurt on the first punt attempt. Short snap caused that.

Hoge at QB is really good. Can scramble well and throws a good ball. Hard to show too much running for your life! Couldn't really gauge the running game as Trinity's defensive front seven did not give them much room to do a lot. The Highlands defense made some adjustments after halftime and played much better in the third quarter. Think overall its going to be a good year for Highlands.

As for the JV for Trinity there is no shortage of running backs. The freshman QB looked pretty sharp throwing the ball and the sophomore can definitely move around and run better. Defense looked good all around. Lots of talent waiting in the wings.

"Beau" said 5'-4" & 135 lbs and proud of it. He said thanks for asking though! Lol...He showed me a screen shot on his phone of a post actually from his Freshman year that you made saying Beau may want to consider learning how to "Backpedal" I couldn't believe he has kept it this entire time. Says it reminds him of the people that said he wasn't ever going to be a good HS QB. Thought you would like to know that you are part of Beau's motivation.

 

That's awesome! I became a fan of his last year when he caught a pass in open field and decided to try to run over a DB instead of beating him to the outside. Loved it.

 

He will have a big year. Glad for his success.

I thought the WR made one heck of a Defensive play as did all of the T receivers.

 

They have been coached well to become defenders when the ball appears to be under thrown, something to be said about that imo.

No shame In this game for Highlands.

 

They're going to be tough for anyone in kentucky.

To support your point, in the 2012 scrimmage game, the Rocks' ones left the game for good near end of 2Q with a 55-0 lead. Game leveled out in 2nd half with twos, threes, and fours playing. BUT my support point is this: in their 2nd regular season game, Highlands smeared Scott Co. 60-37. Trinity faced Scott Co. in the 6A semifinals & trailed 14-0 with 8:00 left in 4Q before pulling off an astonishing comeback. Of course by that time in the season, everybody had evolved but the data suggest that entering what turned out to be another championship season, Highlands was combat-ready. There is more context but the point is valid that the Birds learnt fast, going 14-1, the lone loss a narrow one to Elder & finishing with another 4A title and a 99th place national ranking in the MaxPreps Freeman computer ranking (Trinity was 11th).

My take.

1. Trinity is going to be tough to run against. Their ILBers are thick. Dline looked great.

2. Outside of the first play of the game, Trinity really didn't look explosive. Once Highlands settled in and took away the 1st 2 planes of the passing game T was kind of stifled. Their backs run HARD

3. Highlands passing game will be a nightmare to defend again. A ton of dropped passes killed drives. They won't be dropped next week. Hoge looks like the best QB since Gino. There, I said it.

4. Fumbles in their own territory doomed Highlands. can't give T field position like that.

5. Mills is going to see nothing but doubles all year. T couldn't block him one on one.

 

What are you talking about? If someone read your post first before seeing the score or any other post you would think the score was 28-6 Highlands. How can you say outside the first play of the game trinity didn't look explosive? What was the score again? You also said Highlands passing game will be a nightmare to defend... How many TD's did they score?

 

Try to be a little more unbiased when describing the game next time.

I just went back to look at the time the posts were made when updating the score. I saw 31 unanswered points scored by Trinity in only 53 mins of real time, not game clock time, but the actual time the posts were made which is actually a lot less in actual game time.

 

(to give you how that relates to game time, if T kept that avg up throughout the game the final score would have been 93-0)

 

I can not see how anyone can make posts talking about how great Highlands looked. How is that possible? I wasn't there and am trying to understand what mexitucky was talking about but it just doesn't add up.

 

Im a huge Hige fan and having been touting him for a year now, now it's his time, can someone give me an unbiased account on how he looked and performed? I've also heard over and over again how fast Venneman (sp) is and how no one can cover him, yet he only had one long reception? I, curious if he was open all night but Hoge was just not throwing very accurate to him or if he was actually coveted or if they only threw 1 pass to him.

Veneman had a couple of drops as did the receiving core. Veneman beat coverage regularly by a step or two but Hoge ball was under thrown. HHS will tighten that up and Hoge will make that throw moving forward. Online needs work as no running game was established. HHS lost the battle up front. DJ Mills came to play. This day Trinity was much better. New HHS group. Still plenty strong this year. The 4th quarter was ugly. The JV offense and line need work.

I am such a huge Hoge fan that I can't wait to watch him play in person a few games this year. I've made it public I think he will finish this year as the best QB in the area followed by Fieger so I'm excited to hear about his progress. I always wondered how good he could have been if he went to a school where he could of started at QB for 3 years.

Highlands did have a at least three dropped balls with little or no coverage. There was one overthrow, but Hoge was pressured. Hoge had to scramble most of the three quarters. The running game was non-existent for HHS.

HHS tried to put #6 with a particular Trinity DB after they figured out the weakest cover man. The HHS TD came after a long scramble. Hoge was elusive in the backfield.

HHS won back-to-back state championships after getting waxed by T.

 

I'll wait a bit to say they're not a contender again.
