Listen, I was simply trying to find out how the game really went, not from a biased observer. That is why I questioned your remark about "After the first play of the game" comment because 1: you never said what happened on that 1st play (I wasn't there and was curious) and 2: reading your review of the game it made it sound just like I said in that first post, that if your post was the first post anyone read they would have thought Highlands won 28-6 or something like that. Then when you find out that 31 points were scored pretty fast by Trinity before Highlands scored their lone TD then you would be confused.

I see it. When I post, I'm not going to be negative towards a team or players, not in high school. I try to give a recap that is unbiased, but positive. If I threw you off, I apologize. I was trying to be as complimentary to both sides as I could have been. 1st play of the game was an 85 yard TD pass. After that, it was just Trinity's athletes making plays and Trinity's coaches putting them in good positions to do so. When I said not as explosive, I wasn't comparing them to other KY teams, I was comparing Trinity to past Trinity teams. They'll get there, b/c they have the players. It will just take a bit since the QB is so young.

 

When I say, kind of stifled, I mean that Highlands d line was getting good penetration and putting Trinity is second and longs a few times. To Trinity's credit, they kept moving the chains.

You see, there was no one who actually explained Trinity scored on their drives etc. and as I stated several times, I was not there and was curious as to what happened. This is the first post that even said the first play was a TD.

 

Thak you again, and again I wasn't out to condesend anything you said, I was truly curious about your remarks because I didn't understand them.

 

I went through this thread and you can see what I was talking about. Start at the beginning once the game started and you see 7-0 T (notice the time the post was made) and then another score by T (notice the time of the post) and another score by T (notice the time of the post) and then 31-0 T (notice the time of the post) and it all took place in 53 minutes realtime from the 1st posted score to the 31-0 posted score and then I read your summary and you can see how it would be confusing. No other posts talked about how scores were made, they just had the score which was very confusing. It looked to anyone who was just reading the updates as it happened that Trinity was scoring everytime they touched the ball with their 1st team in. I hope you can see how that would be confusing with what you posted....the 2 just didn't add up...now it makes sense, thanks again.

I stand corrected, in the first score it does say 1st play....i missed that but look at the other posts and you will see what I meant when I said there was no description of what happened.

Good luck to both programs this season and just like years past, when scrimmage results were similar, there are good odds both of them will be in the state title game in their respective divisions.

 

Highlands will play that much harder to stomp out post Dale concerns and t certainly wants to rally against the Louisville publics in the playoffs. Nothing like a "friendly" scrimmages before week 1....! :lol2:

Seeing how the first play of the game resulted in a 85 yard TD pass, kind of tells me you may need to re-think your stance on that.

So here is what I saw tonight:

1. Trinity is a well disciplined team, they will be a force this year.
   
2. Highlands O-line needs some work. There were way too many defenders in the backfield as soon as the ball was snapped, disrupting the passing plays.
   
3. It was 14-0 when I arrived, so I can't speak about what happened before then. But at that point, I didn't get the impression that Trinity was overly dominant over Highlands, although the score didn't indicate that.
   
4. Based on personal experience, Weinrich uses practices and scrimmages to get better, it's not about winning. I put more weight on how well things were executed than points on the board.
   
5. Trinity will have no problem moving the ball, they can run, pass, and kick very well as they showed us tonight.
   
6. Veneman was very fast! He dropped a couple of passes in the endzone that should have been caught. I'm sure that won't happen going forward. Additionally, Hoge underthrew him on a few deep throws. When these two figure out timing, they are going to be fun to watch.
   
7. Highlands running game is not as good as it has been in prior years, but the read-option worked very well during the scrimmage. Hopefully they will be doing more of that in the regular season.
   
8. Hoge needs to throw the ball away more. He is losing a whole lot of yardage when he runs backwards while scrambling. One play, I think he lost about 20 yards. That will not fly.

I've heard from a couple about Hoge underthrowing Venneman a couple times. I'm hoping he realizes he may not be able to overthrow him and that will help his timing some when he can gain the confidence that it's always harder to overthrow a speedy receiver than you think it is.

 

On the Venneman drops, were they balls that he let get into his body or does he already have the knack at using his hands to catch instead of the body? If the drops were due to letting the ball get into his body, that is easlily fixed, if it's the case of just bouncing off his hands then hopefully its just a hand placement thing that he can adjust to.

 

I also heard Hoge needs to learn to throw the ball away like you said and is why I asked in another post about how fast he was yet I got a smart arse response instead of an answer. Does he think his speed can avoid sacks in your opinion? I was curious if he looks to tuck and run too quick instead of throwing the ball away if it's not there.

Very close to my thoughts as well, although I do think HHS' running game will be fine as the O line improves, and it will; and the passing game gets it's timing worked out thus stretching the field.

On your 1st point, I have spoken with last year's QB. He said he repeatedly tried to overthrow Veneman in practices and in some games. Could not do it. Like you would expect from a good CF, he simply outruns the ball to the spot.

From what I remember, they both hit his hands. One of them came on a beautiful throw from Hoge that went through 3 or 4 defenders and found Veneman. It looked like it caught him off guard that the ball got there untouched. I think he was expecting to have to react to a tipped ball.

I think it's actually the opposite. From what I saw, he holds onto the ball as long as possible in the pocket and just needs to get rid of it because no one is open. He showed that he can outrun some defenders, he obviously has some good speed, but when you're rotating your body 270 degrees with a defensive end baring down on you at a straight line, you're going to get caught 9 out of 10 times. Don't get me wrong, I like his scrambling ability when pressured and the pocket closes, but he needs to realize that it is sometimes better to fall down or throw the ball away than lose 15 yards trying to avoid defenders.
