On your 1st point, I have spoken with last year's QB. He said he repeatedly tried to overthrow Veneman in practices and in some games. Could not do it. Like you would expect from a good CF, he simply outruns the ball to the spot.

That is awesome!!!!

 

It does take a QB some time to get used to that idea that it is actually hard to overthrow someone like that because it's rare when you have an athlete as fast as that. It will come I'm sure and when they do click should be awesome and fun to watch.

From what I remember, they both hit his hands. One of them came on a beautiful throw from Hoge that went through 3 or 4 defenders and found Veneman. It looked like it caught him off guard that the ball got there untouched. I think he was expecting to have to react to a tipped ball.

 

 

 

I think it's actually the opposite. From what I saw, he holds onto the ball as long as possible in the pocket and just needs to get rid of it because no one is open. He showed that he can outrun some defenders, he obviously has some good speed, but when you're rotating your body 270 degrees with a defensive end baring down on you at a straight line, you're going to get caught 9 out of 10 times. Don't get me wrong, I like his scrambling ability when pressured and the pocket closes, but he needs to realize that it is sometimes better to fall down or throw the ball away than lose 15 yards trying to avoid defenders.

He should be just fine then. You are probably 100% on target when you said he just holds on to the ball a little too long.

 

A problem (although a nice one to have sometimes) that Highlands usually has is the fact that they have so many good QB's going through that program that you seldom have one that will start for 3 years. If Hoge started for 3 years for instance, or even 2 then we wouldn't be discussing this because he would have already figured that out as well as the coaches.

 

I would have loved to see what Hoge could have accomplished if he was a 3 year starter at the position. I will be honest, I saw him when he was little and even then he just seemed to have a knack for that position and is why I've been a fan ever since. The only concern I used to have about him was if he would grow because I remember when I first saw him, he was pretty small. Looks like that isn't an issue anymore.

I sometimes am very unbiased which comes across to some as being a hater, but I only state what I see etc. Such as CCH, I'm a huge fan of theirs and always have been, not as much as Beechwood where I went but close behind and have a ton of friends I grew up with who now have kids playing there etc. as well as my sons former teammates he grew up with playing with played there such as the Bir Brothers who Corey played with for 8 years in pee wee and one of my alltime favorite linemen for CCH "Pork chop" (who many CCH basketball fans will know as Christian who led cheers for their student section shirtless last year lol) as well as another OL who graduated 2 years ago (Nick Knipper) I just question things and people take it as a hater when I'm actually not.

 

Highlands is the same thing, my sons girlfriend's cousin (Bo Hebel #55) starts on the line since he was a sophomore for Highlands and I have gone with them at least 6 times over the past 2 years to watch games and rooted on the Blue Birds, yet some thing my brutal honesty sometimes comes across as a hater when it's not. The only thing I do hate are some fans who are too biased to be objective sometimes.

If I recall correctly, Will Bardo, Houliston, and Gino were some guys who only had one year as a starter. I'd say it worked out pretty well for them. I agree that three years is better than one, but he wouldn't have received nearly the same instruction at another school as he did at Highlands.

You are correct and is why I said it's a nice problem that Highlands has. They have had some pretty phenominal guys under center over the years, and recent years more than any other and is why guys like Hoge only gets 1 year to show what he can do in that system and because of that he doesn't get the benefit of a couple seasons under his belt to work out these things that come up.

I wasn't at the scrimmage because you know why? No you don't so let me tell you. I wasn't at the scrimmage because I was taking my boy to college this past weekend where he is playing football and needed to get there as their 2 a days started Saturday. Sorry that your beloved Highlands Bluebirds didn't trump my own son.

 

Secondly it was an honest question, I have been a Hoge fan for awhile and if you read any of my posts going into this season you would have known that, so do me a favor and take your condescending attitude elsewhere.

 

Thirdly, I have gone to plenty of Highlands games and have rooted for them. My son's Girlfriends cousin starts on Highlands O-Line and has since he was a sophomore so you can take your elitist attitude somewhere else also.

 

Now since you don't think anyone can talk about or ask any questions about any game or scrimmage unless they actually attended that very game or scrimmage I expect you to never post or ask any questions about any game this year that you don't attend. Lets see you practice what you preach for once.

Wow, it is a wonder why some of you Highlands fans are given a bad name whenever someone on the outside says anything about your team, the elitist attitude really stinks with some of you. They looked pretty good from where I was sitting. I noticed pressure coming immediately through the guard and center area consistently. That was one of the items I was eluding to in my review.
