August 18, 201412 yr Did it back in May. After a practice swim for a tri I took my wetsuit off and jumped back in the lake. Donated the money to CASA and did it literally a minute after I got out of the water. One of their board members was down there doing the tri with me. Not to take away anything from ALS but I liked it better when you could choose your own charity. We did this while choosing are own charity; Wife donated to a local animal shelter and I donated to Victory Junction Gang which is ran by Kyle Petty.

I think if people have an organization that is already special or meaningful to them, then that is where they should donate the money. I've seen at least three different friends take part in the ice bucket challenge, but posted and spoke in their video about the different charity they were donating too instead of ALS because of a family member, friend, or etc. I think all would agree, anything that gets people to be more philanthropic, no matter the cause, is a good thing.
August 18, 201412 yr Thumbs up to all who have accepted the challenges and have donated to ALS. Call it a hunch, a campaign with as much success as this has and will only benefit "giving" to other charities as well. Inducing donations isn't a bad thing folks. Selflessness is a beautiful thing! :thumb:

I'm telling you I had someone tweet that to me last night. And then today was accused of making her look like a jerk. I just let that conversation end. I couldn't believe it. I think she's just mad because none of her friends have thought to challenge her I guess. And I know that sounds childish of me to say, but I could really see it being accurate.

I'm not complaining about charities that use donations correctly. I'm complaining about people who do the "look at me" on Facebook, then don't donate. I'm complaining about charities that misappropriate funds. I'm complaining about things like the NFL's "Breast Cancer Awareness" where people are mislead into thinking their helping the cause when in reality they are lining the NFL's pockets.
