Who Has Done the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge?

Featured Replies

You've probably seen the videos of people dumping ice water on their head in order to raise money for ALS. I was curious as to how effective this was since it was presented as "dump the ice on your head OR send in a donation."

I saw a tweet this morning saying ALS has raised $2.3M in a little over two weeks since this challenge started.

There are few things I hate worse than really cold water touching me.

Chris Mack did it at 9:30 this morning as a response to the challenge presented to he and Mick Cronin by Gregg Doyel.

I can't keep up with all the challenges. Seems like it is all I have seen the past 5 months for whatever charity. Great idea for obviously noble causes.

Not to invoke humor, but did anyone see the guy from KY that lit himself on fire during his challenge?

From what I heard on the radio this morning, if you do the challenge within 24 hours you donate $10 to a charity of your choice. If you don't, you don't $100 to ALS research.

Several of my friends did this thru facebook. I got the wife from second story balcony at the house.

On a related note, Mike Deaton, Highlands Class of 1987 is battling ALS right now. Despite Mike handling his fight with much grace and optimisim it is a heartbreaking journey to watch.

Kudos to all those contributing and prayers to Mike.

Had a kid ask me over the weekend if he could take my beer bin and dump it over his head when I finished selling my beer so they could record it for a challenge. I gave him some excuse about how I couldn't, but that's mainly because I reload before I get empty.

How anyone can find fault with anything where the net result has been millions in donations to help find a cure for ALS is beyond me.

But, as Clyde pointed out in his original post...isn't this basically saying all these people would rather dump a bucket of ice on them INSTEAD of giving anything substantial to ALS? Yeah, sure you might donate $10 to YOUR charity...but, let's be real...nobody's holding your feet to the fire on that either.

It has raised $3 million in a matter of weeks...who cares about the rest. $3 million plus a ton of awareness -- please people (not you, specifically), find something else to find fault with.

I've taken the ice bucket challenge, as has my 9 year old, we each then challenged someone else, and I can assure you my familial donation wasn't $20.

My father died from complications from ALS. Hideous disease. Take the ice bucket and donate too. Trust me it is a very worthy cause.

I'm with you MTGL. Who cares if people take the challenge and only donate $10. It's $10 more than the organization probably would have received from that person.

People who are negative about this, just look for things to be negative about and in my opinion, that's an awful way to go through life (not directed at anyone here).
