9th Region Draw and Predictions

Featured Replies

I think it all boils down to 3 teams, with Holmes being the "third team".

Holmes has the potential to win it all, but I just don't see it happening. The two favorite teams have to be Highlands & Covington Catholic, in that order. CCH is the better all-around basketball team, but HHS pulled out the victory in Park Hills last time.

HHS is the favorite with CCH coming in a close 2nd place...

Im sure people were laughing like that when anyone would have suggested Ludlow ever beating CovCath in baseball too. All Im saying is that there is a chance because Ludlow really could cause Highlands some problems if they play the way they are capable of.

Y'know, in your defense, I saw Ludlow beat Beechwood at Beechwood, and as we all know, Beechwood was no slouch this year. Ludlow has some fine players, but I agree, it doesn't seem as if they are utilizing Penick as efficiently as they could. Sure, he averages a double-double, but if used differently he could be averaging 25-30 points per game. Chase is a very talented guard in the likes of Bibbins. The 6'6" kid is a serious contender. I don't know all their names, but there was also this young blonde haired kid who was a pretty snappy ball handler and perhaps another guard who could shoot the 3. Ludlow is talented, and with some adjustments to their game plan they could could be a better ball team. I wish them all the luck and I think that it would be exciting it they could pull the upset over the Birds. I hate to see any team have to lose during the Regionals, but upsets are really what makes the underdog in all of us get to howl every once in awhile. Go Panthers!:ylsuper:

I have to mark CCH as the favorite they way they're playing right now.

I'll take the BIRDS because of their overall "D".....Best defensive team in the ninth region...:thumb: :thumb:

round one

Holmes over dixie- dixie keeps it close in the first quarter then holmes comes out in the second quarter and starts to pour it on...holmes comes out in the second half and the trio of DJ, Austin Hill, and Henderson takes over the game to put it out of reach just like game 1...holmes by 10-15

Ncc over Conner- probably the best first round game besides the holmes dixie game...game stays close until the fourth quarter before ncc starts wearing down conner with their inside presence of kiernan...NCC by 7-10

Covcath over Ryle- Ryle has a nice showing in the first quarter to keep it within 5 points, then like they've done all year, the colonels come out in the second quarter and put it out of reach by halftime...covcath by 15-20

Highlands over Ludlow- game shouldnt be close...highlands has the easiet first round game out of any of the teams. Highlands by we'll say 13-17

Semi-Finals

Holmes over NCC- NCC stole one away from Holmes in the regular season on the hill after Holmes built a 16 point lead...dont see NCC beating Holmes twice in the same year, Holmes by 10-12

Covcath over Highlands- arguably one of the best semi finals match ups in the state...Covcath comes out fired up after their earlier loss at home to Highlands and Highlands keeps it close until the second half where the colonels take over...we'll say Covcath by 7-10

FINALS:

Covcath VS Holmes: round three...holmes dominates at home in game 1 (although the score didnt show it) and covcath blows holmes out of te gym in the district championship...let's see how holmes responds to the district championship loss and ill make my prediction at a later date

:thumb: That is what I was trying to tell these people. I know Ludlow will have to play a great game to win, but they do have the players to give Highlands some trouble if they play the right way and the way they are capable of. Im sure Coach Highfield will have this team as prepared as can be to for this game so I think Ludlow could have a slight chance. Now if they dont play there game though then Highlands would win pretty easily, but all I was trying to say is anything can happen.

BTW that 6ft. 6in kid is named Justin Hardin, and the that young blond hair kid your talking about is Grant Logan. Both of these players really are the guys that Ludlow needs to step up to help them have a shot.

GO PANTHERS!!!

Not sure about CCH, but I totaly agree about Holmes. They are not the same team without Rice and will have trouble with Dixie.

Holmes beat Dixie AT Dixie by 15 the first time they played.

I feel Covcath is the definete favorite to win this. After seeing them against Holmes I was impressed. But Holmes on the other hand has a much easier road to the finals and with the beating they took from covcath i dont see them not making the finals. That group is a very emotional one and that loss should wake them up.

Covcath on the other hand must beat the host team and Highlands just to get to the Finals. I feel Holmes has a slight advantage because of this but still see Covcath winning the region

CCH because of Listerman.

Players will determine outcomes of these games. If it comes down to coaching then CCH goes down. Coach Listerman's decision to let Vories dictate the end of the Highlands game did effect the end of that one. Go Birds:flame:

Interesting argument.

First you say that players will determine the outcomes, then you contradict yourself by implying that a coaching decision lost the game for CCH in round 1.

FWIW, Vories hit a tough & clutch shot to win that one. Not much that you can do, as a coach, on something like that. Don't sell Jeff short by turning that play into a bad coaching decision...

CCH could have beat Highlands by 8+. They were up by more than 10 at one point and let Highlands back in. I still think CCH is the favorite and if they play they way they have been lately, they should win. BTW, does anyone know what HHS's and CCH's state rankings are. I'm just wondering.

Stop with the coulda shoulda'z already. They didnt, they got beat on their home floor because the 2 guys defending Vories were scared he was going to drive around them. Vories pulls up and hits a shot he probably shoots 40 times in practice. Its a 50/50 chance of going in, but the fact that the 2 defenders respected him that much was incredible.

They let Vories just dribble out top,( I told my wife with 10 sec. left that CovCath was making a mistake by letting Vories take a winning shot) until he decided to make his move. Definetly a clutch shot, but not tough. I think Jeff will take an uncontested 10 foot jumper any day. Hindsight is 20/20, a double team or even denying the ball from Vories may have been the way to go. I guess I did contradict myself. Lets say, If an outcome comes down to an end of game decision, I don't think Listerman wins the game for CCH.

Calm down. I'm just saying CCH is a different team now and I think the number one team is going to win.

CCH is a different team now and playing alot better. I still think this will be a great game with CCH pulling it out by 4-10pts.

Here are my picks:

Dixie over Holmes

NCC over Conner

CovCath Over Ryle

Highlands Over Ludlow

Semis

Dixie Over NCC

CovCath over Highlands

Finals

CovCath over Dixie
