I could see Cov. Cath. coming out with a regional win.

How can you be so certain when they don't even draw until Sunday??? I hope you are right... it would be nice to see the HHS / Cov Cath matchup in the Semis.....Also would like to see Dixie and NCC play to see who goes to the finals.....If this bracket is true...I predict the following.

HHS defeats Cov Cath in semis to get to final.

Dixie defeats NCC in semis to reach the final.

HHS takes the region with a 60-48 victory..........

The draw was on saturday at 10:30, big zigs match ups are correct... I know the Panthers take on the BlueBirds at 745 on tuesday.

Any unbiased fan who has been watching these teams lately has to pick CovCath as the logical choice. They can score inside and outside, play very good D, are very unselfish with the ball, have many threats on the 3-ball, a great point guard and are playing much better now than when Highlands beat them earlier in the season. It will be an upset for anyone to beat CovCath. Holmes definitely has an easier path to the finals if they pull together as a team but they have not played well consistently since the Rice fiasco.

i'll agree with your selection but disagree about the inside, Young is big but thats where that ends, Noll is more of a outside presence doent do much on inside but makes open 15 fters. But the guard play is exceptionally well.

I never have made predictions for the region. There's no way I could hit almost every game the exact way they turned out on the district prediction thread but here goes:

Monday is surprise and suspense night:

Dixie pulls out a very close game in a see-saw battle vs. Holmes. Sam and the seniors at Dixie continue their rebound and surprise some folks by defeating the defending champs in a great game.

Conner pulls out a thriller vs. NewCath by the narrowest of margins and marches on to play Dixie in the semis.

Tuesday night is valiant effort night:

Ryle gives it 100%, playing one of their best games of the year, and falls short against one of the top 15 teams in the state at this time IMO. It will be a much better game than last time and CovCath has to work hard for the win.

The Birds get a challenge from the Big Ziggers for a while but pull away in the last 12 minutes for a fairly comfortable win.

 

SEMIS: Dixie continues their late season surge and handles the Cougars in a game that is close until the final few minutes when Dixie pulls ahead by hitting their throws.

In the most anticipated match-up of the region, the game disappoints no one. It will be a huge defensive battle and a game in the high 40's or low 50's. The Holy Colonels pull it out in the end.

 

FINAL: Dixie keeps it close for the first half but can't match CovCath's inside game. CovCath ends up winning by 10 points and goes on to Rupp along with their Crazies!

holmes up 16 and everything began to be called for ncc and nothing for holmes...boone county, same story...also against boone arrez henderson didnt even play because of an injury...im really not trying to make excuses..the better team won THAT NIGHT..are boone and ncc better than holmes? not even close but those two nights they were....interesting to see if Holmes and NCC meet up again in the semis

I was at this game and am not a fan of either team. The game was called decent, not perfect, but not enough to wine like that. Holmes simply got out hustled and outplayed in the second half and lost.

I don't care what anyone says. There was no reason for Holmes to lose to any team in this region by 19 points. Rice or no Rice, there is to much talent in Red and White to not atleast put up a fight.

 

Its gut check time in Covington. I've seen less talented Holmes teams compete and work together better.

 

Like I said when districts started, Duran Jefferson will be remebered how he gels this team this year. He is the best PG in this region, if he plays the way he should, no pg can touch him.

 

Its time to check all ego's at the door and play. They can beat any team on their side of the bracket. That just leaves them the finals where they have to their "A" ball to win.

 

 

With all that said, and it saddens me to say this, CCH will win.

NCC defeats Conner thanks to Kiernan inside and the sharpshooters from the outside being too much for the Cougars.

Dixie will beat Holmes because of the revenge factor and the seniors don't want to go out in the first round of the tournament.

Covington Catholic beats Ryle due to sheer talent.

Highlands bests Ludlow in the biggest blowout of this tournament.

 

Dixie vs. NCC: Dixie wins this matchup in a great semifinal game because of unbelieveable three point shooting.

Covington Catholic vs. Highlands: Cov Cath wins by shutting down Vories and keeping Guidugli in check. Great team effort here by the Colonels.

 

Dixie vs CCH: Red vs Blue Colonels. Great atmosphere, but I will predict Dixie to upset Cov Cath in a great game, 65-63. Good luck to all the teams.

Holmes beat dixie AT dixie by 15 the first time they played...why do some people think just because Holmes gets beat by covcath that they are done and will get beat in the first round??

 

Im sticking with my gut and saying Dixie pulls of the upset tonight. And to me it really not that big of an upset. They play really good defense and love to get after teams. I have been saying it since the Boone loss, against a good defensive team, I have no reason to pick Holmes until they show me something. They lost to NCH and that was legit. They lost to NCC and shouldn't have. They lost to Boone and shouldn't have. They beat a bad Conner team. They struggled with Beechwood, and then got blown out by CovCath.

 

Many people from Bulldogland want to think everything is just fine and dandy, but I can't buy it. I hope am wrong, and I'll be the first to eat my crow, but I feel confident about this pick. Maybe by the end of the night I'll have a totally different opinion about how the bulldogs are looking.

They have always been like this...you've just got to learn to ignore it...it hasnt stopped them yet has it? they're still playing...you just have to realize they play differently because like i said in a previous post, they expect ALOT from one another because they're so used to winnign and being successful... off the court these kids are like brothers

Now I know the answer to the last one as does everyone else. The 9th is historically weak in the Sweet 16, and history will repeat it self. Whoever represents the 9th will do extremely well to win one in Lexington.

The top 3 (and HC would have as well) are able to defeat Owensboro Catholic (who will win the 3rd). I saw them play CovCath when CCH had no Tierney and played terrible. I think Noll was something like 0-8 from the field. Anyways, IMO, if a team from the 9th is to win state, this year is their best shot. Top teams like Scott Co., E-town, and even South Laurel are beatable.

Honestly the team with the best chance from the 9th to win state. They have the ability at guard, and they are the tallest team in the region. If the big guys come alive, they got a long shot but at least a shot. They have proven that they can at least compete with the best in the state, vs. Scott County.

 

I would say HHS has proven this too. Beat a top 10 team in Bryan Station, lost to a top 10 team in Pendleton County by 3, lost to a top 1o team in Shelby County by one, lost to number one team Elizabethtown (only blow-out and that was in December). All of these games away from home!

Let's recap the past 3 years shall we? Heeeere we go:

 

2003 - St. Henry steals the 9th region crown from favorite Highlands. Everyone thinks they go down to powerhouse Mason County. SH's big man takes a fall in the first quarter and is unable to return. They lose to Mason County by 2. Mason goes on to win the state championship by 20+.

 

2004 - Covington Catholic dominates the 9th and goes to Rupp not expected to do much. They turn out to beat a weak Carlisle County team, then somewhat upset power PRP. They lose to Warren Central by 4, after a very very close game, which came down to a classic finish. Warren Central goes on to win later that day by 10 for the state championship.

 

2005 - Holmes Bulldogs go to Rupp arena after manhandling the Conner Cougars in the 9th region final. They lose to Warren Central by 2 points and Warren Central winds up with a chance to defend their title, losing to a very good South Laurel team.

 

So in 2003, 9th region team loses to state champion by 2. 2004, 9th region loses to state champion by 4. 2005, 9th region team loses to state runner-up by 2.

 

Now, call me crazy, but it seems the 9th region has been doing pretty good as of late in the state tournament.
