couldnt agree anymore on 2short...another problem holmes has had this year is keeping a lead...once they get a comfortable margin then tend to get lazy on defense...they had a 6 point lead several times on covcath and then it was like their defense would fall apart or they'd try to be too fancy and turn it over...if this team can play three FUNDAMENTAL games rather than trying to ohh and ahh the crowd, i cant see any reason why they cant take the region home

Holmes played this game without Rice...Austin Hill drops thirty on the colonels to prove they could still get it done without Mr Rice... and both the boone county and NCC games were holmes' to win...then the referees took over...not making excuses but if you were at the games you know what im talking about

 

I fail to see how this is not making an excuse. I was not at the game... so I cannot pass judgement on either of them... but if it was theirs to win, how didn't they? Not like either of those teams are favorites in the region. Darkhorses at best and one is out in the district.

I don't fault the idea of getting a raw deal by the refs, but at the risk of sounding like a broken record...Holmes mental toughness used to overcome that kind of stuff...they probably did get a raw deal, but they need to stay focused and play hard...btw, cch got totally dogged vs brossart and I thought they fought through it well....they wouldn't have four weeks ago...opposite directions....that's why I think CCH is our best rep in Lexington

holmes up 16 and everything began to be called for ncc and nothing for holmes...boone county, same story...also against boone arrez henderson didnt even play because of an injury...im really not trying to make excuses..the better team won THAT NIGHT..are boone and ncc better than holmes? not even close but those two nights they were....interesting to see if Holmes and NCC meet up again in the semis

mental toughness...holmes really needs to find some...but even without rice, they still have the most talent out of any team in the region..if they can put it all together and get rid of the egos, they WILL win the region...but thats a big IF..right now covcath is on a roll and like u said i wouldnt mind seeing covcath represent us if holmes cant

i even said boone and ncc were the better teams...THAT NIGHT...in 10 games each might beat holmes 2 times at best....each got that one victory the one and only time they played and both by a combined 4 points

 

All im trying to say is i wish people would quit writing holmes off because of a couple bad losses...you all said the same thing last year when they lsot to conner to end the regular season and when they lost to covcath in the district championship...and what happened? one upset and a huge shot and they're 9th region champs

Holmes has the most talent, but right now they don't have the best basketball players, and they certainly don't have the best TEAM. Nobody will disagree in saying if Holmes plays to their ability they could represent the 9th very well, However can Holmes get out of their own way. Cov Cath and Highlands are teams, not a group of individuals. Championship teams don't fight each other on a nightly basis. Remember the article in the basketball preveiw when they discussed how they always fight, and they said if we quit fighting everybody should worry, Well I am sure every team in the region wants them to keep on fighting. You can't win on a consistent basis like that, and that will be the single reason why such a talented group of young men will never reach their potential.

Very good points and i agree to an extent...if you've followed and known these guys as long as myself you'll realize they're a very emotional group...they dont do things like other TEAMS, but thats how they do it and they are gonna be successful no matter what just because simply they can be that good...just because they fight doesnt mean they're not a team...if you see these guys inside school you'll truly realize how close they are...on the court they expect alot out of eachother which is why you see the arguing...thats just how they were brought up together and how they do things...but to say they will never reach their potential? how many TEAMS can say they won region starting four sophomores...holmes will be fine, just wait and see..good luck to all of the other teams in the region tournament

Holmes doesn't have the talent to win state...at least not anymore. At one time they did, but an integral piece is no longer with the team. They have two very talented players (Jefferson & Hill). They have another nice player in Henderson, but he's only 5'11'' or so. Outside of those 3 scorers, they have mostly role players. Edmonson is a shooter, NOT a scorer. He is way too streaky... Rice can score and his subtraction is one less weapon available, which allows the focus of the defense to shift.

 

The aforementioned Nelson & Clark kids are young & raw - they're the only kids that have any height for Holmes. The biggest problem, in terms of basketball, that the Dawgs have is that they're small. Until the Highlands game, they were fairly effective getting offensive rebounds. That's not the case anymore, though. From what I have heard / understand, Dixie wanted to draw the Dawgs because they felt that was their best matchup. Also, the Red Colonels have revenge on their minds. Holmes has an outside shot, but I don't see it happening...

I was at this game as a neutral observer. The refs DID win this game for the Breds. NCC played tough and never quit, but with the help of the refs, their attitude toward the game stayed up and they ultimately pulled the upset. I wasn't exactly rooting for any particular team that night. I'm not associated with any team but I enjoy 9th Region basketball and always root for the team that has the best chance to go far at Rupp. I didn't mind seeing NCC pull the upset because I think it was the game that really got their confidence going at the time of the season when they needed it, but it really is a vulgur thing to see when a ref becomes a team's 6th man. I don't know the refs name, but everytime I see that he is calling a game then I can be for certain that someone's not gonna get a fair shake. I like a ref to be mechanical (like Tommy Thompson is) and show no emotion and just call an exact game, but this guy (mid to late 50's, dark hair, glasses, flabby body type, hefty) gets way too involved in a game and his favoritism is written all over his face. It's sickening to see and frustrating to watch. These kids work very hard throughout their high school careers to create some great memories for themselves and it's sad to see an 'adult' come along and snatch those good memories up because he has an ax to grind with one team or another for whatever reason. I've never been one to get too worked up about refs, but more and more games in the 9th Region are frustrating to watch with all the inconsistencies. There are good refs which favor the argument that the game of basketball is just fine the way that it is, but the bad ones start making me ponder the other possible ways a game could be officiated. I just think that this particular ref doesn't like the Bulldogs and was playing on their vulnerability after they had just lost Rice. Holmes has had their own adversity to face this year and are trying their best to adjust, but it doesn't help their heads when they can give it their all and a ref steals it away from them. But messing with their heads is exactly what I think that this particular ref intended to do. :mad:

I don't think Nate Edmonson has been scoring much recently, and judging from the Holmes-CCH game, he does not seem happy with that and has been forcing up some shots. Also when Dixie gets hott from 3 they could quite possibly beat anyone in this region, and many are predicting that they won't go down easy. Granted, neither will Holmes, but this season is the end of the road for many Dixie players.

 

I think Edmonson would've been better off staying at Simon Kenton with Hester. In his Freshman year he averaged nearly 20 points a game in a rebuilding year for the Pioneers. His game was rather versitile and mature for a Freshman. He was already looking like a very poised player with a bright future. He's had some shining moments at Holmes and he still has time to silence the critics, but I don't think he's been able to play his kind of game there. He now lives and dies by the 3 when I think he was developing a game that was so much more than that. Would've, could've, should've, I just hope that he can resolve whatever pressures at Holmes he is experiencing and come around and play the way he knows how. He'd probably be working on a 2000 point career if he had stayed at SK, but that personal victory is not all that important in the grand scheme of things and I hope that he eventually performs for the betterment of the TEAM.

Honestly the team with the best chance from the 9th to win state. They have the ability at guard, and they are the tallest team in the region. If the big guys come alive, they got a long shot but at least a shot. They have proven that they can at least compete with the best in the state, vs. Scott County.
