July 10, 201412 yr Exactly! It's known as horse feet, I get ribbed a lot about it at work. Feel free to join in, I'm used to it. :lol2: So tempting... ...but ultimately I'm too good a guy not to stay above the fray.
July 10, 201412 yr Author I know several people afflicted with it. They have had good results from a) stretching and b) using The Strassburg Sock. I think I'm going to try the sock, never heard of it but it makes a lot of sense after watching the video.
July 10, 201412 yr Expensive--Yes and no. They are probably way overpriced for what they are. Many pair cost over $100, but they usually have clearance sales (going on right now) and you can get a pair for as little as $40. The problem with ordering them online, is the fit is kind of tricky. So try on a pair instore and go from there. I work out at home and in the gym. In the gym, I typically wear them on leg days (about twice per week), but do walk in them 3-4 days a week around the neighborhood. And on weekends, if I'm hanging around the house, I usually wear them most of the day. They do take time to get used to....start out slow, only for an hour or so at a time, because your calves will be sore. And if you do decide to run in them (I sometimes do), you will have to change your style. Most people are heel strikers, and you'll have to learn to land on your midfoot more, so there is a learning curve. The other downside, is they really start to stink after awhile, so you will have to wash them regularly (on the gentle cycle or by hand). I now have 3 pair, and they've made my life a helped reduce the pain in my feet. They are probably not for everybody, but I do kinda buy into the theory that our super cushy shoes have caused many of the problems we now experience with our feet. Thanks for the info.

February 22, 201610 yr So I'm pretty sure I have this. I broke the arch in my foot in high school which I think could be part of the issue here. I've read people with low and high arches are very susceptible to getting this. At first I thought it was some kind of bruise on the bottom of my foot and it would go away, it didn't. The pain is in my heal and my achilles hurts very badly when going up steps and running. It's extremely tight feeling no matter what I do to stretch it out. I play basketball weekly and workout 2-3 days a week. Walking barefoot is the most painful. I just got some inserts for my shoes two days ago and it's already helping a ton. I'm going to start with some basic stretching toe stretching and towel stretches. Anyone have any other advice to keep this from getting worse?

Somethings I've been doing... Get a lacrosse ball and roll your foot on it for about 15mins a few times per day. I do this while at work at my desk. When done roll your foot on a frozen water bottle for another 15 mins or so. Buy a good boot to sleep in. Google plantar fasciitis sleep boot/brace. I bought one at WalMart but it's not very good. It works ok but going to order a better one. Some times Chiropractors can do somethings to help. You may try that. Go to youtube and look at videos of how to tape your foot. This will help as well.
February 22, 201610 yr This is what the podiatrist did for me and it really worked. I haven't had the problem since.

February 22, 201610 yr Foot problems suck. I just got home from my 2nd podiatrist apoointment this month. I have 1 more visit in two weeks and I should be taken care of. He's been cutting a callus off each foot. Pretty painful while he's working but I can tell a huge difference when I leave his office. For the last 3 or 4 years I've been walking around with the feeling that I had a golf ball in my shoe under the ball of each foot. Incredibly painful. I assumed they were plantars warts and I would need a major operation so I kept putting off making an appointment. I wish I would have done this 3 years ago....

Hum...the past week or so I have been getting this sensation right on the ball of my foot left foot...not quite the sensation of a golf ball size, but maybe a ball bearing or something. Just seemed to start all of a sudden. When I probe around with my fingers, I feel something hard right in the ball. It hasn't bothered me as much the last couple of days, hoping it will go away, but was planning to go see a Dr. if it doesn't.

The friction created as you walk causes the callus to get bigger. I waited entirely too long to have mine checked out. I knew I had some real issues with mine so I went straight to a podiatrist. I would recommend seeing your family doctor first, he may be able to do something or recommend some type of at home removal that would be much cheaper than what I've paid.
February 22, 201610 yr Mrs. S has severe plantar fasciitis along with other foot problems. She's had her left foot completely rebuilt and she had it done twice. The first time, the cadaver bone used to shim up the ankle was rejected by her body. They had to do it again, taking bone from her hip. That's the reason for the scooter. She feels the surgery made her situation worse, so the right will stay as it is. Laura Ferreira, a player on the USF women's basketball team, has a torn plantar fascia. I can't even imagine how much that hurts. Mrs. S cried when she heard, just thinking about the pain. Laura played last night for the first time in a month. They gave her a shot and once the pain subsided enough, in she came. Laura will have surgery after the season.
February 23, 201610 yr First: To the wearer of five finger shoes There has been a law suit against them. False claims. LINK Second: I suffer from this evil condition. This is my x-ray with all the spurs that go along with it. Had it injected just before Christmas. A needle in the bottom of the foot is a very thin slice of heaven but at least my foot stopped hurting.
