Plantar Fasciitis

First off, getting old sux!!!

Anyone else have this god awful ailment?

Seems the last 4 years have not been too kind on my body. First arthritis has really kicked my butt. I used to be a avid golfer, played in a couple golf leagues and would get out at least twice a week if not more. Would plan my vacations around golf and would only go where there were nice courses to play. My entire Hawaii vacation about 10 years ago was designed soley around golf. I then became stricken with arthritis. Not just a flare up here and there, but so bad in my right hand that after about 3-4 holes I could no longer grip the club. I also got gout in both my big toes where it was hard to walk when I was on my feet for any length of time.

My dad was a great golfer, actually that is how we kids would get our golf clubs when we were growing up. My dad would win local tournaments etc. and usually would win new sets of golf clubs which meant us 3 boys would have golf clubs handed down to us each year. We never bought a single set of clubs growing up. My dad was inflicted with rheumatoid arthritis at a young age (42) and had to give up the game he loved. Just about the same age I was when I started getting arthritis.

About 4 months ago I started experiencing severe foot pain in both feet. In the heels actually. the pain gets to the point where it hurts just to stand at times. This increasingly has gotten worse to where in the mornings I would have to spend 1-15 mins in bed just stretching my feet until I could actually get out of bed and stand etc. I went to the Dr's office and sure enough, what I expected, I was diagnosed with Plantar Fasciitis.

I now have orthodics I have in my shoes which makes it better at times, but still I will have days where it is just painful to walk across the room. This really stinks because since I quit smoking last October I have wanted to get into shape and want to do some walking etc. but now it's to the point where I can't even do that.

I still think of myself as young, but the body isn't cooperating. Just wondering if others have been afflicted with this also?

I have it in my left foot. It only hurts in the mornings and after I exercise / hoop / play golf. I've had it since June of 2013 and the doctor said it would last 6-12 months. I'm hooping this afternoon and I can guarantee you tomorrow morning when I get out of bed it will be excruciating for about 15 minutes.

I don't use inserts as my shoes have enough support in them, both athletic shoes, and dress shoes. However, when I'm home, instead of walking around barefoot or in socks (which makes it 100x worse), I wear Orthaheel slippers. They have made all the difference in the world.

I have it in both feet, but more severe in the right than the left. My right is worse in my opinion because of all the metal holding my ankle together. Podiatrist has injected my heel with cortisone a couple of times and it has alleviated it tremendously, but if you don't do the runners stretch exercises he asks you to do, it will come back with a vengeance. Eventually after all the exercises, it will go away, but you have to stay on it. The exercises take around 4 minutes to do when you get up in the morning and before you go to bed at night.

Pretty much exactly the same thing with me except mine is in my fight foot, and mine will hurt when I get up to walk after sitting for any extended period of time. One of the ER physicians has suggested I get some injections in the foot, but I've yet to follow his suggestion.

Since I've hit 40 I've all kinds of problems with my body.

Plantar faciatis is one. Then tendinitis and arthritis in both my feet. Both of these suck. The plantar would hurt like crazy until I got up and moving around in the mornings. The tendinitis had me in a walking boot for a couple of weeks.

Then the big scare was numbness in my arms and wrists. It felt like they were asleep. Doctor thought it might be MS. MRI cleared me of that but I have problems with my discs in my vertebra. This week I had numbness in my stomach and back due to this. It is very annoying.

I guess all those years of playing sports have caught up with me.

I don't have plantar fasciitis, but I feel your pain so to speak. I have some really screwed up feet, wasn't that way 10 years ago but now it's awful. I have what's know as equinus, a condition where the upward bending motion of my ankle joints are limited. It causes problems with my feet, legs and back. Since I have had equinus, I have developed metatarsalgia (pain and callusing on the balls of my feet), shin splints, bunions and hammertoes. Getting older isn't for sissies. :lol2:

I used to run around 20 miles a week...and got thus really bad in both feet. I stopped running for a year and it's not as bad. I still hurt just standing around and this was over 4 years ago....but the severe pain in the morning is gone. I never went to the doctor for it.

When I went to the physical therapist, he did tests on my feet and one of the measurable's he did he said the avg to good results would be a 20-30 and mine were -3 in both feet. I do the stretches and sometimes it seems to help a lot, other times it does nothing. I guess it's just something we have to live with.

I've had it for a while, but the pain is not as bad as it once was.

Just going into my 14 month with it and it finally is going away. Most painful thing imaginable. Inserts helped but they were $600. Hope it never returns. Last season watching basketball was about all I could stand. Inserts are now out. Pain is minimal and life is returning to normal.

After 45, I recommend swimming for conditioning. Just about every other form of violent exercise involves significant injury risk. Used to play a lot of tennis, had to give it up.

I had it in both feet for a period of about a year in 2000. Inserts in my work boots did the trick for me. Haven't had any issues since.

I had a moderate to severe case several years back; had a hard time just getting out of bed and putting any weight on the foot at all. Started wearing better shoes and that helped some.

I'm no snake oil salesman, but this is true. I bought a cheap pair of those inserts with the "magnetic studs", probably from Dillard's. Maybe it was a coincidence, but the problem went away a couple of weeks after I started using them and it never recurred.

Hmmmm....If you find out what they were or where you got those magnetic inserts, let me know I will give them a try
