Plantar Fasciitis

I used to call it "Evil Heels" and would barely be able to walk out to my car after work. I got to where I could kinda manage (I got promoted) how much time I spent on my feet at one time and for the most part got over it.

I had it something awful. Really put a crimp in my day, just about every day. Tried cortisone injections, those god awful inserts from the podiatrist that were made from molds to my feet. Nothing really helped a lot. Then I had cryogenic surgery on it. Basically the dr. cut 3 small inserts in the bottom of both my feet around the pain. Put a cryogenic probe in, and froze all the nerves. BAM. No more problems. 3 years later I'm up to about 25 miles a week again. I'd highly recommend it, Dr. Greg Worley of NKY foot specialists did mine.

Just going into my 14 month with it and it finally is going away. Most painful thing imaginable. Inserts helped but they were $600. Hope it never returns. Last season watching basketball was about all I could stand. Inserts are now out. Pain is minimal and life is returning to normal.
Ever had a severe case of gout? Excruciatingly horrible.

Have never had PF, but have developed arthritis in both my big toes, and recently discovered the joy of gout. I've been taking arthritis meds for the last two years and get the shots once or twice a year, and have been on meds for gout for about two months. I'm visiting my podiatrist next week to get shots prior to football season so I can survive my coaching gig. The one thing that's helped me, is going minimalist in terms of footwear. I wear the five finger shoes to work out and they have increased my strength, improved my gait and cause less pain than regular gym shoes.

Worst pain ever. I basically went through the month of May unable to even put on any kind of shoe except for crocs or sandals. I couldn't even put my foot under the sheets in bed because the weight of the sheets cause me too much pain.

I've thought about trying those. Are they expensive? Hard to get used to? Do you work out at home or a gym? The last question is because I don't recall seeing anyone wear them at the gym.

Went through the same thing back in February, ended up having to use a crutch to walk at all. Amazing how a sheet touching your foot can about send you through the roof! Absolutely horrific!

I had no idea it could be that bad. My mom would get it and I knew a few people over the years that had it but always thought it can't be as bad as they're saying. Boy was I ever wrong! I will NEVER doubt anyone again about their pain.

I take a daily pill to ward off Gout and it does seem to help, but when it flares up I call my Doc and get a Medrol Pack called in to pharmacy. It can generally clear up the pain in 6-24 hours, if pain continues I just keep taking them in 12-24 hour increments. Only thing that has completely cleared it up for me.

In a pinch, Cherries do help, take a jar or two of cherries, rinse them off and eat them.

I was the same way my dad had it and a co-worker had it and I guess I was like you and thought, "How bad can it be?" But when the weight of your foot gives you so much pain you Don't want to lift your foot off of the gas to apply the brake you got some pain! Root Canal is a walk in the park compared to Gout.

I don't have plantar fasciitis, but I feel your pain so to speak. I have some really screwed up feet, wasn't that way 10 years ago but now it's awful. I have what's know as equinus, a condition where the upward bending motion of my ankle joints are limited. It causes problems with my feet, legs and back. Since I have had equinus, I have developed metatarsalgia (pain and callusing on the balls of my feet), shin splints, bunions and hammertoes. Getting older isn't for sissies. :lol2:

Equinus...sounds like a horse's problem. :jump:

I know exactly what you mean about the weight of your own foot being so painful! Had two root canals done and an extraction that took 3 to 4 hours and ended up with a dry socket. Even that was less painful than the gout.

Exactly! It's known as horse feet, I get ribbed a lot about it at work. Feel free to join in, I'm used to it. :lol2:
