Bruce playing first base tonight.

May be interesting to see. I disagree with it. Now right field is weaker too. Why weaken two positions? Put Skip, Pena, or Ludwick at first.

Skip Schumacher has played more games in his career as an infielder than an outfielder, but you move the gold glove quality outfielder to first base? If Dusty made this move as manager, there would be a 200 post thread going already.

Bruce made a couple of plays that were not really routine but not gimme either. But also missed two that an experienced first basement could of had. Schumaker threw a runner out at home that probably would not have tried Bruce's arm/reputation. Overall, it was a wash.

I was sitting in the third row by first base where I could see into the dugout and hear Hatcher yelling instructions to Bruce at first. In one inning the Cubs hit a single to where they had first and third. Bruce was walking back to play behind the runner and Hatcher had to tell him he had to cover first. UNREAL... Bruce is a great athlete but has no business "learning" to play first base in the middle of a season. You weaken two positions. Just call up Lutz, who has been hot, and put him at first everyday and roll with him. I bet if given regular time that he wouldn't hit any worse than Ludwick in left.

You also have way too many relievers when your starters are so good. Most have not had much work at all in the last three weeks. Just stupid decisions being made. They are lucky their starters are currently #2 in MLB in ERA.

Nothing Lutz has done says he'd hit better than Ludwick. Dude is fine for a 24th or 25th roster spot. Not as someone who needs to be counted on daily IMO.

How many has he played at 1st?

Lutz is 9-38 over his last 10 games. Is that hot?

Yeah, the hot 1B prospect is Soto. He's hitting over .300 over his last 10 games, and we've all seen what he's capable of doing to major league pitching.

I agree, but he needs to be up here once they finally see the light and put Votto on the DL. Even if he's on the bench, you need at least one real 1B on the team. Also I think even if he has to start the Reds will be fine.

Yeah, Skip looked totally lost yesterday in RF. And Bruce getting in FRONT of a ground ball just doesn't look right. I say it's a total waste.:ohbrother:

Depth is in pitching...where it should be. Plenty of options at 1B, just not very good options. Same could be said everywhere on the roster except with pitching.
