Not going to lie, I've never heard of him, but sounds like a good get. Need to brush up on my 2016 class knowledge I guess.

From KSR:

He was one of the stars of the summer.

It wasn’t until late in the summer when Calipari extended a scholarship offer to Gabriel. He had been a little-known prospect earlier in the year, prior to breaking out on the summer circuit and earning a fifth star to his ranking. Matt Norlander of CBSSports.com called Gabriel “one of the all-time late-bloomers.”

ESPN compares Gabriel to Luol Dieng.

From Paul Biancardi:

Gabriel’s body and game is similar to that of NBA player Luol Deng. Both score with their long, slender body and a soft touch both on the perimeter and in the paint. They both drive it effectively against like-size defenders, and especially against less mobile bigs. Deng is a terrific two-way player who is active on the glass, and Gabriel is in the same mold — two hard-working and humble players. [

Gabriel will spend time at both the three and four positions in Lexington. At 6-foot-9, he will make one intimidating wing for the Cats.

He's been on their radar for months as a plan B for when Bridges goes to MSU. If the Cats land Fox, who looks to be somewhere close to John Wall level talent, and Monk they will be sitting pretty.

I believe we will get Harry Giles too. That would be a heck of a class.

Bridges committed to Izzo.

I think he goes to Duke but that would be epic.

The five-star center fromTexas will make a return visit to Kentucky for Big Blue Madness according to Andrew Slater of 247Sports. Bolden took his first official visit to Lexington on the weekend of Sept. 2. Bolden has taken an official visit to Duke and will visit Kansas this weekend.

Bolden will join Harry Giles, De’Aaron Fox, Malik Monk as recruits in attendance for Big Blue Madness. Trae Young, an elite 2017 point guard and Kentucky commit Sacha Killeya-Jones will also be in attendance.

Bolden is down to eight schools with Alabama, Duke, Kansas and Kentucky, at the top and Oklahoma, TCU and Wake Forest still on the list.

That Big Blue Madness night is going to be huge.

How bout a guard!?

Fox will be in the fold soon...

How bout a guard!?

Coach Cal will not need any guards, he is introducing the "no dribble, no drive offense" at Midnight Madness!!

So good to hear. What is your opinion on us landing Giles?

From KSR the updated list of those attending Big Blue Madness.

[h=3]Here’s the guest list for Big Blue Madness as we know it[/h]Big Blue Madness is next Friday, and over the past several days, the guest list has grown. Here’s the latest list of recruits who’ll be in town to hopefully rock that Kentucky blue:

  • Marques Bolden
  • Harry Giles
  • De’Aaron Fox
  • Malik Monk
  • Sacha Killeya-Jones (commit)
  • Trae Young (2017)
  • Kris Wilkes (2017)

The one getting most heat right now is Marques Bolden. He was on campus this past weekend and Cal returned to see him at home yesterday I believe.

I agree with Fox being the next verbal.

Cal is also working Bam Adebayo. It will be hard to get him from NC State, but it is getting interesting.

It is seems to trigger that Cal will look to sign 6 players.

If he were to pull Fox, Monk, Adebayo and Bolden to go with SKJ and Gabriel...holy smokes you will have Cal's best class.

I wonder why the emphasis on front court players when he already Humphries, and possibly Lee coming back, and Wynard, SKJ, and Gabriel already committed for next season. I guess it could be an either or scenario with Bam and Bolden, but not sure why he would try to get both?

I guess Wynard and Hump may be project players and a couple of years away but Cal is sure putting the focus on the bigs.
