Weird Food You Like

Featured Replies

I like most all of the things on this thread. Anything pickled, beets, olives, sweet, dill, kosher, cabbage, kraut, anything…. Mrs. Birdbrain hates everything pickled and can tell if I had a pickle up to 12 hours later, regardless of my attempts to disguise or wash it away.

Cottage cheese, parmesan cheese and ketchup mixed together….ugly, but tasty.

I do have to comment on the banana and miracle whip…at first I thought it sounded really bad, then I thought about the potential flavors…I'm still not sure, but will probably try. I do have to say that has to be the most redneck sandwich I have ever heard of, which is why it probably piques my interest.

Grilled peanut butter, honey, and banana sandwiches (the Elvis).

Comeback sauce/dressing. The problem is that it is extremely hard to find outside of the state of Mississippi and the bottled version is not nearly as good as the freshly made sauce is. It's great on everything from salads and fried catfish to Club crackers. Many restaurants serve "crackers and Comeback" as an appetizer.

Barbecue spaghetti.

My favorite dessert is a toss-up between homemade strawberry shortcake and sticky rice with sliced mangoes.

Cold Meat Loaf sandwiches with horseradish on them . Pickled pigs feet , pickled baloney .

I actually prefer cold meat loaf over hot. Never tried with horseradish but I'm putting that on my list as well.

I need to point out, in the interest of full disclosure, I only like them cold. I can't eat them warm / hot. But when cold, I'll eat them for days and days.

I like em any old way. My granny used to can them harvard. And when she was preparing them, I ate so much I peed red. True story.

The meat loaf sandwiches sound pretty good. :thumb:

Braunschweiger, preferable my Grandma's homemade version, but if I can't get that than Oscar Meyer is the only brand that is even remotely close.

Like mine on crackers.

The sweet bananas, tangy mw and good white bread to tie it all in. Add some good fresh potato chips on the side and big glass of cold milk. Yum yum!

I like chorizo quite a bit, which surprises some people (even Hispanics) in the area. I don't know if you'd say "like", but I've definitely ordered some weird Mexican food that I didn't know what I was eating at the time. Not really the best, not the worst, but I've ate cow tongue.

I love chorizo. Cow tongue isn't bad. Neither is tripe, if you can get past the texture. Mountain oysters, chitlins, and hog brains are OK, but not something that I would eat if there is something else. My maternal grandfather loved hog brains and eggs for breakfast.

......

Beets! When I go to Frisch's I get a salad bar plate full of salad, and then a salad bar plate full of beets. LOVE them.

Pickled beets and sweet pickle chips are the best things on the Frisch's bar.

.......

I love A1 on baked potato peel.

I wouldn't put a piece of meat into my body that needed A1 to taste better. If you're steak needs a sauce to be good you're doing it wrong.

This.

Scrapple. Betta than goetta. Even better with a fried egg and ketchup on white bread.

Any kind of seafood. Raw, steamed, fried, doesn't matter.

Spent many of my formative years eating steamed hard crabs and drinking that nectar of the gods, National Bohemian Beer. As a youngster, would visit my grandparents on Maryland's Eastern Shore, wait for the boats to come in, and bring back a bushel of oysters or clams; eating a few raw with the seawater still dripping off 'em.

They don't call it "The Land of Pleasant Living" for nothing.
