Of course I want all of our soldiers brought home which makes it hard to criticize this exchange but how will we all look at this if the five terrorists we released end up killing countless more Americans/Soldiers?

 

Then the math looks like 5 for 1 = (-50) or more.

The Dad just tweeted a request for the release of multiple Tunisian's from G-mo. And supposedly deleted a tweet requesting the release of ALL G-mo prisioners . Not good .

I certainly hope these stories are garbage. Very disturbing on multiple fronts if they're true and I would rather simply be debating the positives and negatives of making the trade for a US soldier.

I refuse to believe they did not know the history behind this guy. How could they miss something like this? I just think there is more to the story.

And not to sound harsh, but citing his ailing health as a reason to expedite his release seemed hollow.

Fellow soliders almost ALWAYS back each other up. Even when wrong, it's like a brotherhood. So for these men to all be fairly consistent in their claims that he was a deserter, had oddities, shouldn't be a hero, etc. that's a strong statement. According to some, his desertion led to the loss of multiple soldier's lives.

 

As Guru said, if this trade took place, even with these concerns notwithstanding, and those 5 high ranking Taliban officials end up directly or indirectly leading to the loss of American lives...did we make the right call here?

This tells me all I need. A dirty deal. If Karazi is not happy, you know it's a bad deal

I have come to the conclusion however that President Obama should be impeached. And I mean that. It pains me to admit that because in doing so I have now admitted that those conservatives "lobbing bombs" at President Obama years ago were correct and I was wrong. I don't like being wrong. I was terribly wrong. President Obama and Attorney General Holder simpy will do whatever they want to do, regardless of the law.

You won't catch as many "likes" from the right-wing base, but it might be the prudent thing to do.

Is there any proof/evidence that the guy was ever captured? From the various things I've read, it seems he was seeking out the Taliban.

 

Also, while I can't get upset about the releasing of a soldier, if proper process wasn't followed (and it doesn't appear that it was), the administration should be held accountable.

We don't know all the facts yet. If Bergdahl took a walk as opposed to being captured, then the enemies of Western democracy won't be able to use him for propaganda purposes. Both Jay Carney and Sen. Claire McCaskill say that some members of Congress knew about the proposed exchange, but the narrow window of opportunity necessitated action inside the 30-day disclosure requirement.
