I absolutely hate to say this, but the best possible solution for the Rams is him getting injured in training camp / pre-season. Sad that this has come to that, but it is where we are.

 

I feel like I've been as pro-Sam as anyone on this board, and I believe had his sexuality not been the story I would have loved the debate of on-field effectiveness (vs great competition) vs combine measurable, but him doing this reality show / docu-series is WAY OVER THE TOP. Part of me (because I'm the anti-cynic of my good friend Clyde) thinks he is torn between wanting to just be a football player and being someone who is championing a cause. I'm sure it is hard to toe the line and be both, and maybe he never set out to be the latter, but clearly many are in his year telling him he needs to carry that cross for thousands that will come after him.

Well the show is on Oprah's network which will mean the 342 people in the USA that see it will have to inform everyone else is it is any good or not.

Getting his 15 minutes while he can…has to generate enough spin to be able to fill his auto-biography and cash in.

Tebow did take a little heat, not so much about his beliefs, but his outward display of his beliefs. Despite that heat though, he was still one of the most popular players in the NFL. He was a first round pick, and basically made a rockstar, all despite the fact that he couldn't play. One could even argue that his beliefs made him MORE popular and was the reason he was so revered. And many of his supporters were completely blinded by his beliefs that they never recognized he couldn't play. The other key difference int he Tebow vs Sam debate, is that Tebow was far from the first NFL player to wear his religion on his sleeve. Reggie White, Kurt Warner, are two prominent guys that come to mind. And many, many players regularly thank God during interviews. Like it or not, Michael Sam is the first openly gay person in the NFL. And being first is what is generating this media storm.
