I Met Coach Hicks Today

Featured Replies

I have never personally met Coach Hicks but I hear the same thing from everyone - super nice great guy, and much different personality on the court. Some of the best are like that. When they step between the lines it is all business.

I am not from Ky but follow Ky hs b-ball and have been on this board for several years and it amazes me when Coach Hicks' coaching is doubted. Many years his team has not been pre-season ranked but have made the sweet 16 and even advanced to the finals some years so either the people in charge of the rankings have no clue or he gets his teams to overachieve many times. I realize he has been the beneficiary of transfers but even so many times he has beaten or advanced much farther than those with more talented players.

Coach Hicks does a good job. BUT I don't know who is in his region, I am thinking it probably is a piece of cake to get out of. Someone help me and tell me who is in his region that he needs to beat to get to the sweet 16?

I understand he can really be a nice guy when standing in the buffet line. Just ask Jared Carter.

That thought couldn't be more wrong, so here is a little info to help you out. The 11th region is routinely thought of as one of the 2 hardest regions to get out of year end and year out, usually alternating between them and the 7th region. This year I think the 7th might have been more top heavy, but the 11th maybe a little deeper. Their is usually no "cake walk" for any team in the 11th region, be it Scott County or anyone else.

I swear there's been some times where his face has been the same color as his red blazer...so, your emoticon is pretty darn close! :lol2:

Obviously you don't know much about KY high school basketball.

The 11th Region is always one of the top two or three regions in the state.

Cake walk????

I've talked to the guy several times and it's not like he's a jerk or anything. But, how many people have you ever talked to who are just jerks in a casual conversation? I swear Billy sold me a used car once. At least that's the vibe I get from him.

On the bolded, prove it.

Since their move to the 11th region, I think an argument could be made Scott County has underachieved based on preseason rankings more years than they've overachieved. I seem to remember some years the Cards were ranked first in the preseason but it didn't turn out that way.

When Scott Co was in the 8th region, it was much easier for them to advance. They redistricted and put Scott Co in the 11th region, much more difficult to advance.

How long ago did they redistrict them?

I think this year and 2012 is some of the best coaching Hicks has done. He's had more talented teams not make it as far as those two teams did. Sometimes you can't coach chemistry.

Had this conversation today with MTGL. We determined that most of the sideline crazies are really good cats off of the court.

Agreed.

Got the chance to meet with Temple coach Chaney at length after the NIT quarterfinal game vs. Louisville several years back. As laid back and personable a guy as I've ever met.
