I did not especially after getting a real feel for him after reading the book about him and his team.

 

I do think some would be surprised.

I think he's a no nonsense guy. Sometimes that comes off differently.

Yes he did. Said it was a great game to be in and no shame losing to a great team.

Met him once myself in the Hyatt lobby a few years back. Seemed like a great guy, too.

 

...his game long bitter beer face at the refs needs some work. lol Granted, even the best of coaches are allowed to have some flaws. That's the only one I can see from him.

Billy Hicks, to me, is a study in contrast. The guy you see on the sideline is NOTHING like what I've experienced talking to him personally. A very, very cordial person the two or three times we've met. Very down to earth in his demeanor and conversation. In the gym...a completely different story.

Had this conversation today with MTGL. We determined that most of the sideline crazies are really good cats off of the court.

They almost have to b,e don't they...otherwise they'd be dead. Can't imagine what BH's heart condition would be like if his blood pressure was constantly as high as it is during games.

I too believe that Billy Hicks is a genuinely nice guy.

 

Scott County played in front of us in the 2000 Sweet Sixteen and he could not have been more cordial. He has also been to Brossart High School to scout a time or two. Good old boy? You betcha. Gentleman? - Certainly is.

 

I also believe that as a coach he is only as good as his talent, and in reading that same book (Open Season) feel that he is more the team, and select players, manager, moreseo than their coach.

He is on a different planet than those of us who have to develop our talent and teach and stress fundametals everyday in order to compete.

 

He already has a stable of talented players, and it is his job to focus their energies and keep the chemestry positive while hoping that their talent will overcome any fundamental shortcomings they may have, and that as a team they will succeed.

I have nothing but positive experiences with Billy. He does an excellent job on individual player development.
