Looks like the big prize was moving 4,000 jobs and the HQ out of California. Very sorry that that apparently bigger move at a corporate level impacts so many here. Obviously, if you are making that big a move it makes sense to consolidate everything at once.

A girl I went to HS with posted on FB that her life just changed in a matter of one day. Her husband works there and they are now looking at relocating to Plano TX.

Kentucky has to become more aggressive to keep business in the state and attract new business. State leadership has dropped the ball and all I keep hearing is bad news. In NKY companies are leaving for Cincy, and you keep hearing stories through out the state.

If I am a Toyota employee who wants to stay here, I get my resume together and get it over to GE ASAP. They have over 1,000 jobs to fill. The bad news if I live in Boone County is I now face a 45 minute commute every morning (and likely will get worse) crossing the Brent Spence Bridge. Still, that is better than moving the family.

Not sure you can blame the leadership on this action. Moving the main HQ from CA to TX was going to happen no matter what the Kentucky politicians did. Consolidating NKY to Plano just make sense at top level. This was not a case where the local politicians could have done much to keep this from happening.

You may very well be correct on this specific case. But where is the plan to replace this job by state leadersip? If this was going to happen regardless , KY should have aggressive leadership that sees this coming and has a plan in place. All I ever read about is jobs leaving KY and not much in regards to attracting new jobs.

I was under the impression that this would not affect several Toyota employees in Erlanger, which is why I asked. It makes sense (to me) that 100% of the company would move.

There are a lot of two income families. It is a tough choice when one spouse has to move or loose his/her job. Much easier choice if you are single with no children.

That is true but the cost of living in Texas is cheaper as well. Losing a salary might not effect them as much as what people think. My parents have a 2200sq foot home in Texas (4 bedrooms, 2 baths, formal living and dining room, eat in kitchen with a huge backyard) they will get maybe $150K if they try to sell it, here it is $200K home. Gas is $3.38/gal, food is cheaper as well.

Don't know that it played a role in this move...but, is Texas a Right-To-Work state?

 

Yes, it has right-to-work laws in place, though I don't know the specifics.
