Drink Refill results in man being charged with Shoplifting

Featured Replies

What local fast food place charges for refills that are located where the customers refills his/her own drink?

It was at McDonalds in Newport/Southgate. On multiple occassions I witnessed said business man enter with an empty cup and head straight to the machine. Fill up and leave. Now I know McD's gives free refills but I have always assummed that only extended to the length of your current visit.

That is blatant theft and he should be charged/arrested.

Heck people walk off the streets into our ER lobby, and get free coffee from our machines that are put out for the families of our patients. It's not worth the bad publicity to stop them, and make a deal out of it.

Wow! Wish he'd be stopped and charged sometime.

Is he white or black?

What does that have to do with anything?

Monumental over reaction. Seems like the guy was willing to pay once he was approached, so that makes this case even more ridiculous. I'm with 'Ru, I would be suing the hospital.

Just wondering if I should call him a punk or a thug. :idunno:

Slow day at the Charleston County VA.

They should have tased him.

I agree in this case that the guy may have assumed like all of us would that refills were free since it was self serve.

That said, 95% of shoplifters are more than happy to offer to pay once they get caught...and always seemed confused when I wouldn't let them pay and then police show up with those pretty silver bracelets for them.

I understand the second part of your post, makes total sense and I've seen that happen myself. But like others here have said, if refills aren't free, the soda machine shouldn't be where customers can refill themselves. I think that makes the situation more ridiculous.
