Wow. And it's not like you can go down to the local Rent A Center and get a 7 footer for a year. Oh, wait...:whistling:

If that is the case then IMO he should have been ineligible to play. I'm all for kids transferring and have no issue with this but a kid with intentionsto leave school as soon as the tourney is over really rubs me the wrong way.

So his decision to leave, for whatever reasons, was made before the tournament. When was he supposed to leave? In your opinion, would it have been better if he left before the tournament when the decision was made, deserting his teammates? Once he met his obligations to his teammates, what’s the issue? If your future looks better, why stay in the past? Get on the bus and go for it.

Most, including me, suspect this is a purely basketball-driven decision. But the kid didn’t seem happy, and he might have hated Georgetown but extended his stay as much for his teammates as for himself, so I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt. At their regional tournament game with LexCath, much was made of Billy Hicks “surprise coaching move” to start a smaller kid in the middle. But after pregame warmups, the team went to the locker room, and when they returned both Hicks and Long were conspicuously absent until seconds before gametime. Not the first time I suspected friction between these two. So I wish him well and wave goodbye, glad that my kid got to play him. The bus runs both ways in Georgetown, I understand someone interesting will be getting off there soon.

Not sure when he was supposed to leave. It just rubs me the wrong way when a kid is done with a school immediately after the season is over. It's not a good look for the player, coach or school. This is similar to when Joe Casey dropped out of school as soon as Paducah Tilghman's playoffs were over. No matter how you try to slice it, this isn't a good thing for anyone and we all know the last thing Scott County needs is a basketball player leaving school as soon as the final buzzer sounds.

IMO...if a kid starts at a school on day one of that school year then that kid must finish that year at that school. Then if he/she wants to leave so be it. If, however, a kid leaves before the end of school then he/she should be ruled ineligible the following year...based on that kid transferring to another in state school. As I said...does this really surprise anyone?

Bingo! There was no "right time to leave," but the kid needs to get to his future. Disagree with you on one thing, though. "The last thing Scott County needs" is this long-standing embedded culture of the school and community actively enabling the importing of athletes. If they don't like fickle athletes moving out, maybe they shouldn't buy them the tickets in. Trust me, the last bus to Georgetown hasn't run yet.

Too many kids whose parents are running from the rent would be penalized.

What effect on his eligibility at his next school does his failure to complete the school year at Scott County have?

I'd guess none if he is currently enrolled.

I did confirm...he will not be with the Travelers this summer.

Scott County giving new meaning to one and done!

Not sure much can be done about it but it leaves a bad taste in my mouth for sure!

Scott Co has been doing this for years . Why is anybody suprised

Surely we have some Scott County fans on here. I'm genuinely interested to hear their take.

Something that's gone unmentioned, and shouldn't, is the person pulling the strings behind the scenes. I could see where there would be resentment towards Scott County and can certainly understand why no one would feel sorry for them. However, as is the case in most of these type "situations," the kid is subject to the wishes of their "handler" - be it a parent, an uncle, a guardian - that often is using the kid for some sort of leverage. Rarely do I blame the kid in these type situations.

I wish he would have stayed so we could see him continue to develop.

As far as kids moving in and out goes... we live in a mobile society. Families move in and out of Scott Co all the time and for all kinds of reasons.
