Louisville now has 2 5-team districts with fifth-place team rotating into NKY Districts as No. 4 team for playoffs..

So as I read it, a team in District 3 or 4 could tank to 5th place and get the heck away from Trinity, St X, etc in 2015. Granted, it's just that one year but still. Does that sound like a system that knows what it's doing? That a team might be better off being in last place of their district than fourth?

 

And I don't mean that as a slight to the teams in D5 & D6. Just that in many years escaping the Louisville teams is desirable.

 

Look at the bottom where they are talking about playoff pairings. Only the Louisville and NKY districts will rotate playoff matchups and the 5th place Louisville districts will always be paired with one of the NKY districts so they'll still be matched against the Louisville schools.

Butler and PRP have to be a little upset. Ballard and Trinity will renew their rivalry and Trinity now has only 5 games to fill every year. All in all a good thing.

I was a bit surprised to see Shelby County in 5A District 6 with Anderson County, Woodford County, Madison Southern, and Montgomery County. I figured they would be in one of the Louisville districts or with the Oldham or Bullitt County schools.

Playoff pairings rotation would rotate between 3, 4, 5 and 6 for the first 3 years of the 4 year alignment period. Year 1 would have 3 and 4 paired, 5 and 6 paired. Year 2 would have 3 and 5 paired, 4 and 6 paired. Year 3 would have 3 and 6 paired, 4 and 5 paired. Board will determine in May, 2014 as to length of time for the rotation of pairings beyond the third year.

 

 

3 & 4 are the Louisville districts. Year 1, they are paired against each other. The worst team in the two Louisville districts will get to go to the other side with the NKY schools. Maybe the NKY schools trounce them, I'm just saying, it's a setup where if say Ballard decided it would be better off to be 5th place and play Conner rather than a school like X or Male, they could.

Adieu to much of Trinity's regional super schedule. The Shamrocks go from three guaranteed games against Kentucky teams to at least five: four district games plus St. Xavier.

BTW, how very like the KHSAA to think it makes sense to send the Oldham County schools past all the Louisville schools to meet up with Nelson County and the Bullitts. Sure, it's a modest increase in travel, but what exactly is the sense of that? Simply to have an all-Louisville district?

District 3 – Bullitt Central, Bullitt East, Nelson County, North Bullitt, Oldham County, South Oldham

District 4 – Atherton, Doss, Fairdale, Fern Creek, Iroquois, Southern

 

Definitely what it looks like.

 

I'm with you. I'd have gone with:

 

District 3 - Bullitt Central, Bullitt East, Nelson County, North Bullitt, Doss, Fairdale

 

District 4 - Atherton, Fern Creek, Iroquois, Southern, Oldham County, South Oldham

A few quick thoughts:

 

I like the addition of Franklin County into Collins' district. Replacing Atherton and Waggener with the Flyers will make it a much more competitive district along with North Oldham and Spencer County, two schools that have been on the rise.

 

Bardstown and Central should become a good rivalry now that they are in the same district.

 

Harrison County and Holmes have to be happy that Highlands and Covington Catholic have been replaced by Bourbon County, Mason County, and Scott.

 

Marion County, Mercer County, and Taylor County are also happy that Boyle County and Lexington Catholic are gone.

 

I don't like how the KHSAA handled the Louisville area schools in 5A. Oldham County and South Oldham will have to drive through Jefferson County to get to their district games when there are plenty of teams from Jefferson County they could've been paired with. I also don't think Shelby County should be put in the district they are in especially since they border Oldham and Jefferson Counties.

 

Butler, DuPont Manual, Male, Pleasure Ridge Park, St. Xavier should make for a very strong district.

 

Overall I think the KHSAA did a pretty good job. No plan is going to be perfect, but this one isn't bad.

The Jefferson county 5a schools sent a request to KHSAA wanting to all be in one district. I have no problem with that placement. No big deal really.

So Scott County will not have to worry about the Louisville or NKY districts until the finals? If I am reading it right, seems kinda fishy to me.

I don't I know about anyone else, but I'd rather have a 6 team district than a 3 team district. 6A has several 3 team districts which make no sense. NKY could have 1 district for 6A instead of 2 3 team districts. Doesn't make sense to me.

Another three team district with a five team district. Not a fan of it.

Me neither. Makes no sense to me especially when you have schools in the same area to make it a 6 team district like NKY 6A

 

Much rather have 6 team than 3 team so that the regular season district games actually mean something.

Just glad that the Bell County Bobcats are back in the mountains again.
