I don't know if they've approached him but I am 99.9% sure he'd stay at Larue County over Lincoln County. I just don't see Lincoln County or very many schools in our state being able to offer him something better than what he has going on at Larue County. Just my opinion.

 

I think the same thing. It is hard to leave great places and from all accounts, Josh Jaggers is in a great place.

I've been curious if they might approach Josh Jaggers, Marty's son and current Larue County head coach. I know Josh loves it at Larue, but he did kind of grow up in Lincoln County.

If there was to be a new super, look for LaRue to go right to the Garrard County Board of Education and snag him back.

You are probably right Harry. There are some former coaches in some local counties/school systems who are probably chomping at the bit to be in Jaggers' shoes and be the "savior" of a program. EVERY county school goes through cycles and the 5th region has seen it's share of county schools go up and down in all sports. That's just part of the small community life and ALL small/county schools have their ups and downs. Campbellsville was mentioned earlier and they are getting ready to come out of one of those cycles. Look for the Eagles to have a BIG year! LaRue's super isn't going anywhere. His dad was a previous super at LC and the board is on his sied...little Red will pick when he leaves and I don't foresee that being anytime soon. Man makes one poor choice, and the sky is falling. Everyone gets a second chance. Jaggers won't leave LC for "any" job...it would have to be a good one on a lake somewhere in the western coal feilds to lure him away.

I thought about what you said when it comes to 5th region teams and many of them going through cycles, and man...when I think about it; that is so spot on. I got to thinking, and a number of schools..dang near all of them in the 5th region who have any kind of success, have also had big time lows.

 

Fort Knox, Elizabethtown, Nelson County, Marion County, LaRue County, North Hardin, Green County, Bardstown, Campbellsville, Meade County (French era, before Meade went to the 3rd..and, they will be back in the 5th, but that's for another topic)...dang near all of them except for John Hardin

 

Fort Knox- 80's-90's, enough said, but been a pretty consistent rough ride the last 15 years. People have no idea the obstacles that Brandon Combs and some others have/had to deal with there.

 

Elizabethtown- Next to Fort Knox and their run back in the 80's and early 90's, along with Bardstown...they have more state title appearances than anybody in the region, and in 2011-2012 they won one game.

 

Nelson County- State Champions in '96, 0-1 Win seasons several years later, followed up by another one here recently, now back on their game and the states leading passing team the last two years to go along with it.

 

Marion County- Had an o'fer season about 10 years ago, 6 years later they are playing Lone Oak @ Lone Oak in the state semis and up at halftime.

 

LaRue County- Has a handful of region final appearances under their belt, had a rough couple years before Rodney Armes was hired, a rough couple years his first two years and Jaggers just had a rough one, with another one probably to be expected.

 

North Hardin- Next to John Hardin, the most talented program in the region and they are in the midst of it having won only 3 games in two years. Like Fort Knox, people have no idea the obstacles that Brent Thompson has to overcome there. People see talent, but have no idea what goes on behind closed doors there.

 

Meade County- Larry French had one or maybe even two, 1 win seasons within the last five years of his time at Meade County.

 

Bardstown- In 2008, they won 4 games. Bardstown, and the great program it is winning 4 games in a season is the same as an average program going O'fer or winning 1 game.

 

Campbellsville- 6 Classes has been there problem. They play zero 1A schools in their non district play b/c there aren't many, if any willing to play them. I expect them to have a big year, too. They have a junior to be named Kendon Young that, well, everybody needs to remember that name.

 

Green County- Very solid program over the years. Mike Griffiths had a great run in the early 2000's, then hit a lull there for a couple years winning a game or none (no, wait, I think he had gotten out of it for a couple years, maybe it was those years he didn't coach) then they went on another really good run. Chris Engstrand will have them back to those 8, 9, 10 win seasons.

 

 

Anyway, just some food for thought. Sorry to hijack. Looking forward to seeing who Lincoln hires. I think it would be epic for them to get Marty Jaggers back. The whole area minus Danville (Harp not being there), Harrodsburg-Mercer merger will be like a flashback to 1994.

If Marty goes back to Lincoln this will be a fun area to watch some knock down drag outs!! Perry at GC, Chuck Norris at Boyle (one of my favorite threads), Jaggers at Lincoln, Peach at Anderson, French at SW (I know, that one might be a stretch). What do they have in common?? We might see a lot of tight ends and 3 backs!! LOL...throw back football and everyone is home by 9:30! LOVE IT!

In reference to 5th region, I love the fact that Jaggers is committed to staying through the downslide. SOOOOO many times a coach jumps ship when talent pool appears to be dropping off. Look at the coaches who "got out" of the 5th region schools as soon as they KNEW the talent was starting to fall for a "foreseeable" future. I won't name names, but they tend to disappear for a spell, then reappear at the same school or a new school when talent is on the upswing. The thing about Marty Jaggers is if he goes back to Lincoln I could see him seeing this through until its going well again and hand the reigns over while talent is still very high. He would be a GREAT hire for a rebuild! IMO.

If you look at everything that is in this post the most important thing was left out. (Scheduling) Larue when they were on top could not get a lower level 3A/4A to play or an upper level 2A to play. That being said this causes cycling in some programs. Campbellsville for instance has had to play up ever since the days of Perry Thomas. They beat people so bad in the mid 90's - 2000's that their schedule is still one of the toughest out there and it has killed good players coming out to play. If kids do not feel they can WIN, parents do not let them play. Many others mentioned I have seen the same thing in. When your a Campbellsville/Larue/Taylor/Green or any of these schools and your having to travel more than 30 minutes to get a non-district game then that is not the coaches fault that means if you will not play then put your pads up.
