It seems to me if you stay away from the basketball players and just get the one's that want to play for each other then you can have a very good program. However, if you fall into the trap that I have to have all the good athletes to WIN and you use that as an excuse, then you will not win at Lincoln. Jaggers would be a very good candidate. With the now situation at Larue, he may be ready to move.

Jaggers won't go to Lincoln. I feel pretty good in saying that. Best candidate for that job for sure but he's not headed there.

I have no idea. I do think Tim Godbey will do a good job to get the best available coach.

1980: 7-4 (lost three games by combined 6 points)

1981: 12-1 (lost to Highlands in Region)

1982: 9-2 (lost to David Hensley and Cawood in District.....and to Boyle County )

Mike Settles has resigned as Lincoln County High School's Football coach. He has agreed to take an Assistant's coach's position at Boyle County High School.

 

In six seasons, his teams finished 22-43.

There is a really good load of talent coming through right now. The kids that will be freshman and 8th graders in the fall are as good of prospects as we've had in a long time.

You have to hire winners!!!, if you want to WIN. The problem is that there is not much emphasis put on High School Football in our state as far as being successful goes. Schools today do to budget shortfalls and so on might only have one full time coach on a staff and the rest para-pros. Not to say there are not a lot very good para pros, because there are. However, if you are the lone ranger you eventually run out bullets, energy, and like many time to get the program on its feet.

IMO, the new coach will be someone with head coaching experience. I don't think any of the current assistants will be considered, and that is no slam on any of them. I just feel Lincoln will go after a current head coach.

Go after is the key term. I believe Lincoln knows who they want (or at least has a narrow list) and will search them out. The question will then be if that person will want the position.

Here is the latest on the process:

 

As of today there are no applicants for the job and the principal, Tim Godbey, is working to put together the search committee who will assist him in the decision. As with most positions, there will be a teaching job tied to it, so the 30 day posting will apply to the teaching position that Coach Settles has resigned from. Settles taught some PE classes and also kept the in school suspension classes.

 

Coach Settles was on WPBK-FM this past Saturday morning and he said that the current assistants are continuing the weight lifting program and will conduct Spring practice when it begins.

There are rumors floating around that it is a "done deal" with a particular coach, those rumors are not true. There have been numerous inquiries from prospective coaches.
