I believe Travis Leffew is running Spring Practice.

There are several coaches out there would be good hires, but the coaching profession has taken a turn and no one is willing to move unless they are going to get support and time. The program has to have numbers and in school weight lifting, and with out those things then you might as well put your equipment up. I do not think Lincoln is ready to make this commitment. If you only WIN 23 games in 6 years then things have to change, and it starts with the Principal.

According the the team roster from last year, Lincoln had more players than almost any of the years that Settles was at Lincoln. I know that the head principal helped Settles to hire 2 assistant coaches who would teach in the high school. The principal also gave him a very flexible class schedule that moved him to the PE department and created an in school weightlifting class. I would think that a coach looking at the position could see that support is there from the principal, and the time that he gave Settles would indicate he is patient.

 

Having said all of that...what realistically be done? They are not going to pay the next coach $90,000. The facilities are more than adequate. What would the new coach need? Those are legitimate questions.

I think one of the big concerns there is the basketball situation, and that I don't think the basketball kids playing football is very highly thought of. Most of you that know me on here I think would know that I'm not one for throwing out rumors and hearsay, but I've heard it from enough people in the mix to not help but think 'where there is smoke there is fire'.

 

Lincoln County always has thought they were a basketball school. Even back in the days when they weren't very good, not even making it to the 12th region tourney (which, lets be honest..it was and still is one of the most wide open regions in our state)....you always got the feeling that basketball wanted to be king.

 

Sad thing is, they could be very good in both. But......

If a school does not have a weight lifting class in each period of a school day then all the athletic programs at that school will suffer. A school can't have one weight lifting class a day with 60 kids in the class and expect to have a quality weight lifting program. I'm not sure how Lincoln County runs their weight lifting class but would think they would need more than one class a day.

I know several powerhouse programs that lift after school.
