Yo. Wanna go to Prom?

Featured Replies

It's getting to be that time of year again.

It seems like in the past it was all about WHO you are asking to Prom.

Today it's also about HOW you are asking to Prom.

lawildcat mentioned in another thread how she was so impressed that the guy didn't just text it, rather he drove all the way out to her house to ask her daughter to prom.

What are some creative and innovative prom invitation methods that you have seen or heard about?

What about the simple, sincere, heartfelt methods?

My sophomore year, I went with two Senior chicks, they asked me.

Junior and Senior year, I asked the girl I wanted to take in person.

I should add that he brought a sign along asking her and gave her a DVD of the movie "Frozen". I am assuming that is the theme for HHS's prom this year. It was very sweet.

You're right, Hoops, kids are coming up with all kinds of unique ways to ask now.

There are creative methods to asking someone to prom? What the heck for?

I can tell you what my method was: get nervous, sweat profusely, fumble through the actual invite and then start silently saying a Hail Mary until she responded.

The daughter of a family friend was asked with a big "Would you please go to prom with me?" message written in her driveway with washable paint.

Pretty sappy if you ask me...but I suppose that may be because I'm not a high schooler any more.

My only rule when my boys were in high school was that there would be no IM or texting to ask a girl. In person on an actual on the phone verbal conversation.

When I was in school a guy got a local business to let him change their sign so that he could ask a girl to prom using the sign. Well the story goes he drove her up and down the highway 7 or 8 times past the sign and she never saw the sign, he finally had to pull over and show it to her :lol2:

When I was 15 I had a girl from NDA ask me to their Silver Bells winter formal that they have around February each year. This isn't intended to sound mean, but to be perfectly frank, she was 150% socially inept, and maybe a 3 out of 10. She called me at 7:15am on a Saturday morning, just a few days before Halloween to ask. I'd had a football game the night before, so I was worn out and went she called....and I was so caught off guard that I couldn't come up with a good excuse not to say I'd go. :lol2:

After I got off the phone with her, I went back to sleep for a couple of hours. :lol2:

No one said taking a smart girl to prom was a good idea. :sssh:

So your daughter is going to Highlands prom this year? The theme is not "Frozen" I can tell you that. Believe the theme is Fly Away or Come fly with us?

Last year my daughter was swimming laps at the Y. She looked up and her date and some other kids were holding up posters with letters spelling out

P-R-O-M-?

Ughh......prom themes. Those are the WORST.

In high school (back in the late 70's), I built up the courage and just asked the girls (if I was not already dating them). If I was dating a particular girl, it was just a simple part of a conversation and an assumption that we would be going to prom together. My horror story was when I was asked by a friend, not somebody I was dating, to take an exchange student from Nicaragua who was staying with her to her prom. Cute girl. Looked nice. I said sure, why not? It turns out that she knew no English (why was she even visiting this country?). At the prom she didn't talk to me, nor did she want to dance with me. We rode together in the same car as my friend and her date. We got back to their house. My date said nothing, opened and slammed her door, and ran into the house. I was still in shock in the back seat while the other two were making out in the front seat. I got out of the car on my side and walked about a mile or so home in my tux. Definitely, one of my top 3 most embarrassing moments in high school. Thanks, hoops5, for making me remember this.

Interesting. Maybe it was just a gift because she likes the movie?! :idunno:
