I was wondering why it was taking so long to get a response from someone?

when does this realignment start? after the 2014 season?

Here's my stab at 5A:

 

D2 Barren Co, Bowling Green, Grayson, Greenwood, Nelson Co.

D3 Atherton, Doss, Fairdale, Iroquois, Southern

D4 Bullitt Central, Bullitt East, Fern Creek, North Bullitt

D5 Anderson Co., Oldham Co., Shelby Co., South Oldham, Woodford Co.

 

Nelson would be a bit of an outlier with those South Central schools; might fit better geographically w/ the Bullitts.

 

Also, w/ Oldham & S. Oldham being north of Jeff Co and all those others you have them with being basically south and/or east, it might be they mix those two in with a few of the Jeff Co schools and put a few of the Jeff Co schools w/ the Bullitts to make a couple of 6 team districts.

 

Then maybe take those central Ky. teams (Anderson, Woodford, Nelson?, Montgomery, Mad Southern) to make a district.

 

Any way you try to do it though, there are some outliers. But what you have makes sense and could work. Impossible to predict though from the other years I've tried--definitely more an 'art' than a 'science.' (Think: NCAA Bball tournament selection committee)

And looking at 2A eastern KY is not going to be pretty. If this is rock solid then at least 2 districts are going to be very spread out. Some may only have 1 district opponent within an hours drive if that.

Second you are correct, 2A Region 4 will be pretty spread out. Are you a EKY 2A supporter? Who do you follow?

In 5-A, I'm guessing

 

1) Fern Creek would be kept with the other Louisville schools (even if it means six teams; doesn't seem to make sense to force one to travel)

2) Nelson would be in the Bullitts' district. Nelson County and Bullitt Central were in same district back in old 4-class days. Were also soccer district rivals until the KHSAA started using basketball alignment for baseball, softball, soccer and volleyball, too. Have a REALLY hard time seeing Nelson getting sent to Woodford and Madison counties.

If you look at it geographically, like the KHSAA does, moving Campbell County to a Scott Co. district makes no sense. It makes more sense geographically to move Ryle to the Scott Co. district IF YOU HAVE TO MOVE ANOTHER TEAM. I see a 5 team district with Campbell Co. and the four Boone Co. schools.

I think it would be awesome to have a 6 team district myself but I don't know how the other districts would be formed then. I guess it really isn't fair to have a 6 team district and others only having 4 teams.

 

Or would it be the 4 Boone schools in one district and Campbell and SK joining the Scott Co district?

But there's already one 6 team district in 5A (Anderson County, East Jessamine, Franklin County, Montgomery County, West Jessamine, Woodford County). You think they're going to make two 6 team districts?

You guys are right about Nelson Co. Fern Creek could go either D3 or D4 - I left them in D4 to create 2 districts with 5 teams each:

6-A is gonna have issues. Partly because of the KHSAA's doing (32 teams, all make playoffs, intent on having eight districts of four teams each).

 

1) Six NKY schools, if I counted correctly. Who gets split? If it is five teams, even worse to just have one NKY team in a different district.

 

2) Five WKY teams. Muhlenberg is already in a district with Meade and Central Hardin, but now North Hardin is back. So you have CH-MC-NH locked into a district with a fourth team (likely Muhlenberg) which is a haul and in a different time zone and has nothing in common with the other three teams.

 

Ohio (should be 5-A) was granted the chance to play 6-A. Ohio is closer to those other WKY 6-A teams, so logically Ohio should be the fourth team in the district, not Muhlenberg. HOWEVER, Muhlenberg is actually a 6-A school.

 

So while Ohio argued travel as the reason for being in 6-A, another 6-A school (Muhlenberg) will be forced to travel MORE to accomodate Ohio.

I wonder if there was a way to maybe even have 1 less district. I don't know the geography well enough to list the schools in each district if there were only 7 districts for 6A, but wonder if that would work better and have more than 4 in most districts.

I've been scratching around on paper since last night....and I think that's roughly what I was trying to come up with. Nice work, DF. I'd put my money on this one.

 

Although I don't like it, I think having two 4 team districts where all teams make the playoffs and two 6 team districts where two teams don't make the playoffs is a kind of inevitability of the 6 class football program that the KHSAA has set up.

I look at it this way with Cooper moving up to 6A. More of a chance to meet even more fellow BGP'ers so there is a plus to the move!!
