Trinity 55 Owensboro 41

This game may have had a 14 point margin, but it felt like 24 for some reason. Holman's game long foul problems really hurt the Red Devils. But they started five juniors, I think, so I believe we haven't seen the last of them.

Trinity/Hopkinsville should be fantastic. Two very distinct styles of play and they both play them well.

Depends on what we mean by "shady". A couple kids did something dumb. The administrators put a stop to it. Doesn't sound shady to me.

Just from the context of the discussion at that point.

If it were a complete non-issue, I don't know why the staff would shut it down.

I initially took all of the 'staff' to mean someone involved with the team (like sitting on the bench) and not an 'administrator' (teacher in the stands baby-sitting students). If someone from the bench tells a fan to stop something, it's probably because they don't want a technical foul called for it. Maybe I'm conflating the meanings of 'staff' in all of that too though.

I don't think it was shady. Especially when I couldn't see a single flash from our vantage point. To me shady would be to do it after the announcement is made not before.

Why wasn't Hollman pulled after his second foul of the first half?

Because Owensboro didn't have a chance to win the game if he wasn't on the court most of the game. The hope is he could play 6-8 extra minutes in the first half, as opposed to ensuring he would only play a few minutes.

It didn't work out (more due to poor officiating than Holman), but I really liked the decision. I'm not a fan of automatically sitting a kid with foul trouble.

Is there a rule against fans creating a distraction with artificial light? I know you can't use artificial noisemakers, but I'm not sure if lights are prohibited (though I think they should be).

If not, why wouldn't fans use strobe lights or a powerful spotlight to distract their opponents.

^ I'm sure there's a rule somewhere. But I agree, if there's not, there should be.

Rule or not, it's not something you do.

Let's be very clear. When I say staff I'm referring to the teachers and administrators that are there in force to monitor the student section. A kid used the camera on his cell phone while an Owensboro kid was shooting a free throw. A Trinity teacher reprimanded him AND took his phone. After it had been addressed one of the 100 year old blue jacketed ushers overreacted (there's a shock) and had the PA guy make an announcement that you couldn't use a flash camera. IMVHO if anyone who wants to whine about this is just going out of their way to find something to whine about.

Using flashes on your phone to distract a FT shooter is low class. The PA announcer shut it down so it was happening.

I agree that it's just not something you do. Hopefully that's the end of it for the rest of the games.

Welcome to BGP, Brown!

Looking forward to today's games as yesterday was fun. I think this thread is getting beat to death now. The facts are that in yesterdays afternoon session both Hoptown and Trinity were EASILY the much better teams.

To be fair, it's against the rules and there were also multiple announcements about not being allowed to use flash photography were made during the Johnson Central/Campbell County game as well. I know that the announcement is usually made multiple times during the state tournament. It's not just a "let's bash Trinity" thing.

To be fair has anyone who supports the losing team in that game complained about it?

I didn't agree with #4 on him.

The 4th and 5th seemed horrible calls...Spaulding drive leans past holman, Holman raised his arms, spaulding falls down...foul...and the last call seemed horrid. I think the 2nd was similar. If those are fouls, then all of Trinity and Owensboro's frontcourt should have foulded out. Holman got about 1 total minute in the 2nd half. Once he got 2 fouls, he was afraid to play any defense at all.

I'd like to point out that Owensboro was making their state-record 42nd appearance in the State tournament. Pretty remarkable.
