I don't care how many people the Field House seats or how much money it generates, it is not fair to have the 10th region tournament there every year. It's not fair to the people who live in the far reaches of the region...places like Clark County for instance.

 

Our best venue in the 14th region is no doubt Knott County Central's Morton Complex (5000 seats), but there is no way that the rest of the region will ever give KCC the advantage of hosting the tournament every year. The way it is right now, each of the 4 districts gets their chance to host the tournament in a 6 venue rotation. That way all fans throughout the region is given a fair shake. I mean, the distance between Stanton and Hindman is about 80 miles. Well, that road runs two ways, for both fans and players. Why should the 56th district players and fans have to load up and travel nearly two hours every year, while schools in Knott, Perry, and Letcher basicly have the tournament in their back door? What's fair about that?

 

Same thing for the people of Clark County when comparing the Mason County venue.

I don't know who is doing the talking for the 37th District, but the 37th District Tail isn't going to wag the 10th Region dog, now or anytime in the future.

 

The 10th Region tournament is firmly rooted at the Mason County Fieldhouse and I suspect that is where it is going to stay ad infinitum. Since it ain't broke it's not about to get fixed. Jackpot sized splits guarantee that it will stay firmly implanted in Maysville.

 

You will hear no complaints from us. It is one of the selling points that we use for playing in the 10th Region.

 

If the truth be known, the 10th Region blue-bloods are probably not happy to have the 37th District, (comprised 100% of former 9th region teams) growing on them like some kind of tumor as it is, let alone agree to "come north" with their showcase and "lose control" of the 10th Region Tournament as we know it.

Now I realize money is the issue for boys, its not for girls so it is rotated around each district every 4 years. So if the 37th on their turn voted to have it at NKU, I don't think it could be stopped. At least that is what I hear in PC Land!!, but maybe you speak for everyone!!

I believe he was mearly stating that most in the 10th region realize the Fieldhouse, in the immortal words of Tony Perez--"Has beeeeeen berry berry gooooood to me"!! The idea of the 10th region tourney at the new NKU arena is an intriguing idea, and the time to consider it will come; but Maysville and the Fieldhouse have been very good to the 10th region!! Let me state again, a little louder and a litter clearer and in language you might understand - "IT AIN'T COMIN' TO NKU."

 

When Montgomery completes their new facility, I would expect that as a courtesy it may be held there for one year, after which the attendence and revenue figures will be compared and it will come home to the Fieldhouse.

My understanding is sometime this spring, and it is to seat between 9/10 thousands. Personally, I don't see those in Mason, Bourbon, Harrison Counties or Paris willing to do all that driving, and remember if the boys play there the girls will want to play there also........

 

Everyone in the Ninth will love to play there, and no one will complain about the drive, as we in Boone, Campbell and Kenton Counties, will finaly have a first rate arena, like the most of the other areas of the Commonwealth have had for years......

 

Actually no farther to NKU than to Mason County for Harrison County.

Some things are just better left alone. The Fieldhouse is the home of the 10th region Tournament and shall remain so. You cant' go messing with tradition like this. It's talk like this that ruined High School Basketball in Indiana.

Mustang is right on,I think Tex you are thinking of the District tourny its rotated each year.The Region is voted on by the coachs thats why ive said all long it wont move cause the majority are very happy where its at and thats what it takes is the majority of vote.Im more than willing to give Montgomery a shot at it though once.

What about when one gym holds possibly 5,000 more people than any other gym in the region? Think the ADs, principals, and supers want to turn all that gate money down? I think not.

I agree with you and some of the others the 10th Region Tournament should be at the Fieldhouse, why would anyone change it, the Fieldhouse is the only facility to hold a event of this magnitude, with all that come to watch the games there. There's a lot of history made there, and it's a great basketball tradition, great atmosphere as well.

I cant understand why people want to change something that has worked so well for so many years. I, for one, dont mind at all to drive to Maysville because I know that nothing beats regional time at the Fieldhouse. Is there an advantage for Mason County? Not one bit. As myself and others have stated on several occasions, when Mason County when the regional tournament they were the best team. Let's not change something because a few people think it is unfair. Not to sound cruel but if the tournament were to move to Mount Sterling, I doubt very seriously that I would ever attend.

Its probably because this isn't the same 10th region anymore. The 10th has a fair share of NKY schools in it now, and they shouldn't have to make that drive every year.

sites. Schools interested in hosting a regional tournament

must submit their request through the defined site selection

process at prior year tournaments. The Commissioner’s

office may use this site selection plan as a guide, but is not

bound by this plan in determining the sites.

 

Personally I think that Montgomery should be given a shot at holding the tournament and see how things go from there.

 

Everyone says that Mason County has a HUGE home court advantage. The Fieldhouse opened in 1966 and it took the Royals 15 years to use that home court advantage.

 

The tournament has been held there every year since it opened except one, when it was held in Winchester.
