From the KHSAA handbook on regional tournament sites.

 

The Commissioner shall determine the regional tournament

sites. Schools interested in hosting a regional tournament

must submit their request through the defined site selection

process at prior year tournaments. The Commissioner’s

office may use this site selection plan as a guide, but is not

bound by this plan in determining the sites.

 

Personally I think that Montgomery should be given a shot at holding the tournament and see how things go from there.

 

Everyone says that Mason County has a HUGE home court advantage. The Fieldhouse opened in 1966 and it took the Royals 15 years to use that home court advantage.

 

The tournament has been held there every year since it opened except one, when it was held in Winchester.

 

Here is the breakdown of winners since the Fieldhouse opened.

When the NKU gym is built I think it would be interesting to have a 9th Region/10 Region challenge their during the regular season similar to the ACC/Big 10 Challenge.

Exactly!!! :thumb: Why this isn't already in place I will never know. I just think that it would be interesting and profittable. A full day of 9th/10th region basketball.

The years they won the region they were most of the time undoubtingly the best team in the region. Especially during their 2 three peats in the early 90's and 2000's as well as the 1981 state finalist team.

Can anyone name another high school team that gets to host region every year on their own floor besides Mason County and Henry County?

 

Hey, why don't we have the SEC tournament at Rupp every year? It perfect to have the region at or near the most northern point. Using that logic that would be great.

 

Don't you think that 16th region fans would be mad if Ashland hosted every year? Of course they would. What if Henry Clay hosted the 11th?

 

Who cares about fairness when tradition is involved. Come on you all can do better than that.

 

And yeah Montgomery can handle the parking.

How many times has Clay County hosted the region? Especially back in their glory days.

 

Is Rupp 3 times bigger than the Georgia Dome? I think not.

 

If Ashland seated 7,000+, MSU did not exist, and nobody else could even get 3,000 in do you think anyone else would host it? I think not.

 

Where will 5,000 people park at Montgomery County?

They have gone from a 2 point win to a 27 point win, a 4 point win to a 21 point win, an 18 point loss to a 2 point loss, an 18 point loss to a 5 point loss against the same opponents from their regular season away game to the region at home.

 

Can you honostly look at these numbers and say there is absolutely no home court advantage for Mason Co. in the playoffs.

How about 2002:

Lost @ Bourbon by 18, then Beat them by 3 @ the fieldhouse.

If that tourny was held anywhere else, they would not have won it.
