I'd love to know how they spin like a top, on skates and don't just fall down like a kid at minor league baseball game.

Like it or not, that part is what makes them true athletes. That kind of control and balance does not just happen. That is the result of practice and work and work and practice.

As the winter Olympics go I'm a bigger fan of figure skating than most events. I watch things like the luge, bobsledding, curling, etc., and just don't get it.

In figure skating I see power, speed, coordination/balance, and stamina. Kinda sounds like a lot of athletic things combined now that I think about it.:idunno:

Or like a soccer player when somebody breathes on them.

Ice skating is pretty rough if you've never tried it. I'd liken it most to rollerblading. Can definitely agree that the people who do what they do in the Olympics are just as athletic as plenty of other sports. I think that, based on what limited knowledge of the sport I have, that the scoring is highly subjective and that gives it a bad rap.

I agree the ice skaters do things that are absolutely amazing. But there has to be a better way to judge them. I guess there is another controversy based on the scoring last night with the Russian teen.
