If I'm not mistaken, Pendleton County has already missed 18.

 

Monday was 19. We've gone back to back days on time, though!

I can't speak for Mason County schools, but in the past - when calamity days were offered, they refused them.

 

Calamity days call for $$ allotted for those days to be paid back to the state, I think.

Its a joke in our area about Mason County's cancellations due to cold weather, but they may get the last laugh if they get the State emergency days and get their spring break,state tournament days and get out 2 weeks before everyone else in June

 

I believe to get days waived now, you have to forgo your spring break.

But yet....

Roberston County has played 22 basketball games

Bracken County has played 22 basketball games

Pendleton County has played 22 basketball games

 

Seems these schools and some more, have played more games during the last month or so, than their students have attended days of school! Please explain?

 

I spoke with the principal at BCHS and he told me that if they cancelled games every day they cancelled school they would not get near to a full season in…so they play when they can, even if school is cancelled. In fairness to this statement, by the afternoon / evening, the roads can be clear enough to safely have games, so it's not necessarily a district issue based on school being closed.

Im pretty sure Rockcastle did, my cousin has 4 kids that go there and he said teachers kept saying the magic # was 20. Just so happens they have missed 20

No way there is any magical number. Teacher contracts are at least 185 days, some more, but that is the the standard. Fiscal year is July 1-June 30. Kids have to go 175 days (6 hours for students minimum of class time) by statute, again some can choose to go more. It can be waived by the Comissioner, in emergency situations. It doesn't happen often. Usually it is a real emergency like a building having a fire, etc. Bottom line they can go to school until June 30. There are many ways to make them up. Spring Break, extended days, Saturday, etc.

 

Districts will be adjusting their calendars soon if they have surpassed the set aside Make up days. Been there done this for many years. Most schools start early August because of this. Although the Commissioner can grant them days, it is very unlikely. You have to pay teachers 185 days regardless, might as well have the kids there when they are there.

 

No superintendent is even thinking they might get calamity days. Most are still within the first week of June getting out, maybe a couple bleeding to the second week.

 

The ten day difference between teachers and students, for those curious, are 4 holidays, 4 professional development days, and one day to open and one day to close for record keeping and such.

Mason County hosts an indoor track meet every week, including today. It is almost NEVER called off.

I really don't know why this thread is all about Mason County. Mason has missed something like 16 days and I believe they have refused days from the State again. Why is Lewis or Fleming not in the Title? I believe they have missed more than Mason. I kept my granddaughter at least two days that Fleming was out that Mason went to school. When Mason played Nicholas, they said thay had missed 22 days. Sounds like All In may just have a problem with Mason!
