I was always taught to use 2 spaces but now I am a 1 spacer. I prep financial statements and sometimes using 2 spaces leaves a big amount of space between sentences which looks odd. Really, it just depends on how it looks when I'm going through the reports to proofread. If it looks odd one way or the other, I adjust accordingly.

I took a typing class when I was a senior in high school (1992/1993), we used manual type writers. However I don't recall her teaching us to put 2 at the end of a sentence. Guess I should have paid more attention.

I always thought it was a typewriter thing. I assumed it was so you could tell the difference between a . and a , which wasn't always easy to do on some typewriters.

I was a two-space guy in high school. Newspaper writing in college turned me back to a one-spacer I've become even more consistently one-space since law school.

That's no longer the case. Periods are narrower so you don't need to two spaces after a period.

I was taught two in my high school typing class. I probably still use two a majority of the time now just out of habit, without really thinking about it.
