Let's see. Where best can he keep his legendary status? At MC he'd have to face Trinity, X, Scott Co., etc to win a state title. Boyle will be bumped down to 3A it is looking like, which means no Highlands, Cov. Cath, etc in 4A. Those State Titles look at lot more attainable in 3A than they do in 4A or 5A.

Personally I think he would have been competitive at either school.

Chuck has not pimped himself all over the state. Some of us fans on BGP have rumored him for jobs that he NEVER had interest in and never applied for. I'll personally wait to see if there is some story to come out about what and how the commitment was broken in Richmond.

 

Let me clarify, since I am talking to BGP followers that what I meant. We have pimped him all over the state. I said "He HAS been pimped, I did not say he pimped himself. I have always had great respect for Chuck but I think he is wrong in this situation. Boy imagine being a Madison central football player and think hey we just got a 5 time state champion and then he comes in and tells you the plans for the future and you are so Pumped and then boom, you guys are really not what I want see you later. Bad for the high school world in my opinion

I don't blame Smith. The Boyle job was not open when he went to MC. If it was he would never have accepted it IMO. The kids at MC are likely to feel bad but Smith has to do what is the right thing for his livelihood. Scepters will do a good job for them.

I was told during this past season that Larry had told Chuck that if he wanted the job back at Boyle he would retire at seasons end so Chuck could come back this came from one of Larry's fishing buddies so I find this hard to believe about Larry French.

It's been an eventful week. For what it is worth.....

 

1- Chuck Smith did what is best for him and his family- which is what he should do.

2- The way it happened, no one likes, including Chuck Smith. It was rough how this happened shortly after going to Central. But it doesn't change #1.

3- Coach French would not drag his feet to keep Chuck out of Boyle. Coach French did what was best for him and his family.

4- I've known both of these guys for a long time, coached with them, they have been my mentors for 30+ years. No one is perfect, but these two really are GREAT people and GREAT coaches.

5-Coach French and Chuck are at the top of their profession, but all of us are getting older. Both of them need to take advantage of opportunities and do what is best for them and their families. This sounds impossible right now, but the day is coming that no one will be calling them to offer them a coaching job. While they are still in demand and can make the moves they are making, they should do so.

6-I think what is getting lost in this scenario is that Mark Scenters is an outstanding young coach. Mark and I have shared ideas over the past few years. He is a very creative and innovative coach. Not just in his football, but in his overall approach to building a program. He is very organized.

 

All 3 programs are in great hands with guys that want to be where they are. If my son were in any of the three schools being coached by one of these three, I would be very happy.

Southwestern was very slow with their process, mostly due to several days of missed school since 1st of the year. I think that had much more to do with the timing. Interviews were completed Thursday and French was announced on Monday...Chuck taking MC job doesn't really fit in that time line since he had done so before interviews were even completed at SW

Don't blame Chuck Smith. He did just what you or I would do - he bettered himself in the job market. Most people would do likewise. Best of luck to Chuck and welcome home.

You can't blame Chuck for going back to Boyle County - based on past history. Hear there was conflict over assitant coaches and funding, already at MC. Did new A.D. Brandon Fritz drop the ball on the Chuch Smith deal?

 

FYI, Fritz was a player and is a current assistant coach for Feldhaus, while also assuming the role as athletic director.

Had an interesting conversation with a buddy of mine from a nearby school out side of Madison County. They know all about the MC job from being from here etc... CS everything you said here is almost word for word what I was told around 530 today. He also mentioned about coaches, funding for new jerseys, etc as having he thought alot to do with it. I wish Mark the best of luck at MC as do I coach smith at boyle.

I was told that Larry had said that if he knew Chuck wanted to come back to Boyle that he would step down and that Chuck could have the job. Guess it just depends on how much you trust your sources.

Does anyone know if Brandon Smith will join the staff? I keep forgetting to ask that question.
