Totally agree with you EXCEPT he did make a commitment to a bunch of young men and probably told them how they were going to be on top if they bought in to his program. That is my only issue with it all. Better yourself if you want but remember this is high school football not the NFL and I can't see him making more money at Boyle as far as pay scales go. Hey it is where his heart is best of luck to him and the Rebels

 

To the kids, it is High School Football. To Chuck, or any adult in any career field, it is a Career. It is "Real Life" where a person makes their livelihood. I see no difference than a person who accepts a position to a company and leaves two weeks later because their "dream job" opened up.

To add to that I haven't heard one person say that Chuck is going to win 5 in a row again. I haven't heard one person say that Boyle is even going to win one title. I have heard people say they are excited for the future. I have heard people say they are happy their kids will get to play for him and I have heard people say they are glad that the program is back in Chuck's hands.

 

At the end of the day it's that simple.

I pose this questions because Chuck had Pardue with him everywhere he went, and most notably as his OC at Boyle. Then when Pardue left, Mason took over the OC role.

 

That's a piece to the puzzle that is just as important as any IMO. They'll be successful, no denying that, but those two were as big a part as any in buidling Boyle into what it was. Chris could have been a HC anywhere over the years, turned down several chances. Pardue went onto be a successful OC at Campbellsville U, now doing great things at Mercer County as the HC there.

Been wondering that myself. Pardue was an awesome OC. When he gave it up as Head Coach is when I felt the program stumbled a bit.

 

Don't know if Mason is moving on or if Smith wants to bring in his own OC.

Mason was not Pardues OC! With Mason as the OC they are 72-11 with 2 state championships! 4 perfect regular seasons in 6 years! I'd say that's pretty awesome!! He runs the same offense that Pardue runs!!

I said one thing and meant another. Yeah, when Pardue was the HC, he might have given an OC title, but he was calling the plays.

I believe Chris Mason is the only coach to have all 7 state championship rings won by the Rebels.

I certainly respect P Dean and Chief Smoke for their opinions, but what could the record for BC have been with a competent OC. I have heard opposing coaches make the statement that if the game was close they always had a chance with Mason calling the plays. If Coach French would admit it, he planned to replace Mason as OC two years ago, but some things didn't work out. Boyle should have had one more championship under French, if there had been a different OC on board. French is too much of a gentleman to state that openly. Of those 11 losses mentioned over half of them can be attributed to just poor play calling. Even if as Paul, said Mason ran some of the same offense as Pardue, timing plays such a big role, as well as using the correct lineups and formations at the proper situation in games. In his defense I do think Coach Mason is a good offensive line coach, but has always been way in over his head as OC. When his own assistants that he has worked with over the years have come out numerous times in public and state that they cannot understand why this has been allowed to continue, it does make you wonder. Hopefully Coach Smith has someone in mind for that position. This years team can certainly be a title contender and all Rebel fans feel confident that Coach Smith will do everything in his power to see that this team has the opportunity to be the best that they can be. This of course means having all pieces of the puzzle to be in the proper place.

Or Boyle could have had 2 less titles without Mason. Boyle very easily could have lost to Bell County at home in 2009 and to Lone Oak in the finals. Mason played a key part in out scoring the Purple Flash for the title. You could also looked at it as if Boyle could have easily had 0 titles under French without Mason. We just will not ever know what if?

 

I do agree that Boyle very easily could have won State in 2008 that ended with a L at Bell County. I don't blame Mason for that loss, If not for the 5 turnovers they had, that would've been a win.

 

Personally for me, I would not changed anything and tickled with the 2 Championships we do have under French with Mason's help.

I appreciate you saying you respect my opinion and I want to be polite/professional as well.

 

I have a bias because Chris Mason is a very good friend of mine. But, even saying that, I can honestly say I believe he is an outstanding football coach. I've never heard another quality coach say otherwise to me. I believe Chris is regarded state wide as an excellent coach and a big reason for Boyle's success.

 

I remember one time being at a cookout with some fans/supporters of a very strong program. The name of a former coach came up (not French/Boyle) and one of these old guys says...."so and so couldn't coach." My response was " He won two state titles! How can you say that?" Their response...."Yeah, if he could coach, we would have won five."

 

Sometimes good coaches and programs create monsters that are tough to feed. But, in alot of ways that is a good problem and if those types of things are being said, you are probably in a place that football is important and it is being supported.

 

On another note....can a moderator shut down this thread and start up Boyle 2014? I think the fact that Chuck Smith is going to Boyle County has been established . :laugh:

I agree on Masons play calling IMO its not good and if you were to poll the fans on any given Friday night the majority of the fans in the stands would agree that its not good. a friend of mine from Mercer told me that coach Pardue said he knew every play Mason was calling because they were the same signals he used when he was the OC at Boyle, and I wondered why Mercer seem to be ready for every play Boyle ran during their playoff game.
