I've never felt this was life or death like some. Playing with Highlands, just like playing with Moeller and several other 6A schools prepares CCH better than most. Next year will be an incredibly hard fought game. There will be a new coach at Highlands and kids under his guidance and none of them want to be the ones who broke the streak. Likewise on Cov Cath's side- Coach Wirth has a very good group coming back and really needs to take the next step. They both may reclassify next year but no matter what class they each end up, I can guarantee the regular season game will go on. Too much tradition and- like I said- playing teams like Highlands only makes you better.

I think he plays football as well as basketball AND I think you will see him on defense.

Lol! Sorry bout that confusion my friend. I have seen umpteen posts about how he will "probably" go basketball. Hope he does play both if not more. I love seeing kids playful multiple sports. He is a tremendous athlete and I'm sure could handle the demands.

The young man has a very high Basketball IQ and has a lot of pop in those legs of his and being only a Frosh he has some growth in him not only via height but in bulk. The young man is a kid you rarely get to see, one who can play any sports he chooses and be extremely good at it and one who understand the word "Team" and "Humility". I have yet to see in the over seven months of Football and or Basketball a single moment of his showing off or downplaying a fellow freshmen due to his being on the varsity Basketball team. On the night his classmates won the Freshmen Tournament, I think he was as happy for them, his friends, as any parent on the team was for their son. His Mom and Dad have done a wonderful job in preparing him for life well beyond sports.

Anything is possible- but at the end of the day, if your a coach, you put the players on the team who are the most dangerous with the ball in their hands, on offense. If he decides to continue playing football, I would be very surprised to see him in defense (although I know he would do terrifically there as well)

 

Having said that, there are terrific options for CCH at the skill positions this year, so the need to have a Soph QB play significant minutes is lessened.

CVH has a chance to break a lot of CCH basketball records. His growth will dictate on what level of D1 that he will experience. He has one of the highest basketball IQ's that I have ever been around. I am going to "enjoy the ride" watching CVH in the coming years!

I'm not surprised one bit. Having been around the young man and following him on the AAU circuit the last 3 summers I knew what many are just now experiencing. This is why I said a year ago the he would start varsity as a freshman in basketball when he arrived at CCH and many CCH faithful blasted me that no way would he start and I just laughed to myself and said they'll see what I'm talking about soon. Congrats to CVH and best of luck in whatever he chooses to pursue whether it be one or both sports. Talented.....

Does his playing basketball costs him playing qb? I know that CCH does a lot of off season stuff with their quarterbacks, does playing bball cut into the time commitment that position demands, thus moving him to a different position? Or is it simply because they are set at qb and this will get him on the field sooner?

No having two upper class men who both have been on the playing field and did very well in Ben and Wags.

Over the last month I have heard he is not playing next year, but this weekend I heard he was.

I do not see how CovCath can invest time and effort in kid that you do not know he will be playing next year or the following year.

CVH ,IMO will be under alot of pressure to commit 100% to basketball.

CovCath also has a senior QB, that if he not gotten hurt would have been one of the top QB's in area last year.

Also the one area CovCath has some question marks is in the secondary. if CVH plays, he will be more help on defense that on offense.
