Not sure about JV. I think CVH is the only varsity player.

 

Just glanced at the JV roster, and I don't believe any of them have played football in the past.

In watching him play football, the best I saw him play was against Ryle in the Freshmen Champiohship Game and he impressed me a ton with his play at LB. I would think with both Wags and Ben B. being a Sr. and a JR., Cole best shot at playing Football next year (starting varsity that is) would be as a DB. Very quick, smart, can jump, hits very hard and is a sure tackler.

 

Must say this though, the young man at times this season (Holmes and Summit CD to name just two games) sure doesn't look or play like a 9th or for that matter a 10th grader, with the round ball.

 

Young man has a bright future ahead of him in both football and basketball and for that matter baseball if he wants to play it but you wouldn't want to meet a nicer and more polite young man, who honestly to me at least, seems a bit embarrassed by all the attention!

 

Just the clarify, Cole played Safety in last years Frosh championship game- though he has and can for sure play LB. If we are calling a DB what CCH defines as a Safety then yes, I could see Cole succeeding there. But frankly, he's a kid that lends the most value to his team with the football in his hands. So for that reason, I believe he should stay at QB. He really only got to play half of this season because of his injury and could have done much much better had that not occurred.

Bottom line for me, I would love to see him play both sports because I think CCH has an opportunity to celebrate one of the better athletes to come through in awhile.

Has CovCath had many if any footballers that were anything more than role players in basketball over the last 15 or 20 years? I am guessing the answer is no. I do not see him playing both sports for very much longer. Just my opinion.

Kurt Bovard, off the top of my head, was the last "key" basketball player that played football. I'm not sure that has anything to do with what Cole does or doesn't do, but just answering your question.

I think injury had a fair amount to do with the way Cubby's senior year turned out, but regardless, I wouldn't think anyone was out of bounds for calling him a "role player".

Disagree with "role player." He played a lot of minutes. He and Bo are good examples . I get what JOAT is saying. I just don't think, though, past history has any bearing on CVH's decision. I hope he plays both. I'd hate to see him "focus" on one and then regret not playing the other as well.

I say the same thing about a lot of high school kids in Northern Kentucky. Hate seeing kids play one sport only and then you talk to them years later and they say they should have played this or played that. Play them all and enjoy the high school experience because you only get to do it once.

Sounds like we'll see CVH delivering blows next year instead of throwing TD passes.

If nothing else losing Dale is losing a lot and yes I know W is a good coach but Dale is and has always has been, very special coach!

 

Losing Dale is going to hurt HHS and if you all at HHS don't believe that, then you are all being silly. He can't and won't be replaced and you know that as well as we do!

 

So this yr is it. If CC ever has a shot at beating HHS its this yr because of the coaching change.

I've never felt this was life or death like some. Playing with Highlands, just like playing with Moeller and several other 6A schools prepares CCH better than most. Next year will be an incredibly hard fought game. There will be a new coach at Highlands and kids under his guidance and none of them want to be the ones who broke the streak. Likewise on Cov Cath's side- Coach Wirth has a very good group coming back and really needs to take the next step. They both may reclassify next year but no matter what class they each end up, I can guarantee the regular season game will go on. Too much tradition and- like I said- playing teams like Highlands only makes you better.
