Over the last month I have heard he is not playing next year, but this weekend I heard he was.

I do not see how CovCath can invest time and effort in kid that you do not know he will be playing next year or the following year.

CVH ,IMO will be under alot of pressure to commit 100% to basketball.

CovCath also has a senior QB, that if he not gotten hurt would have been one of the top QB's in area last year.

Also the one area CovCath has some question marks is in the secondary. if CVH plays, he will be more help on defense that on offense.

I don't disagree that there would be more playing time possibilities to be had on defense- but- I do think we'll have some good talent back in the secondary: Wagner and Zumdik return as starters- got guys coming up like Kathman, Summe, DeMarsh, Wilson, Caldon and Hornsby.

Will be tough to replace the experience of the three Seniors though no doubt.

I agree this team has a lot more talent that many outsider thing.

But I do not see CVH willing to play JV QB , and not play on Friday on defense.

Also usually plays a lot people on defense.

There are only 24 hours in a day, Coach Ruthsatz will have them in the gym/weights several different times throughout the day. CVH is a great enough athlete to make both sports work, but I think there needs to be flexibilty on both Basketball and Football coaches with his schedule. There might lye the problem.

I would be surprised if there is a problem.

It also depends on what level of AAU that he plays, the higher levels require more traveling throughout the summer.

He will play a high level of AAU.

Does his playing basketball costs him playing qb? I know that CCH does a lot of off season stuff with their quarterbacks, does playing bball cut into the time commitment that position demands, thus moving him to a different position? Or is it simply because they are set at qb and this will get him on the field sooner?

No having two upper class men who both have been on the playing field and did very well in Ben and Wags.

So your answer is yes, because they are set at qb. I agree that made the decision to move him to defensive for now much easier. The qb position at CCH will be one of their strengths next year.

Wait. are you guys saying there is an issue if he wants to play multiple sports. Do these coaches really not let their players not play other sports or discourage it. Seriously! I have heard this at CCH but c'mon, this aint true right?

To be clear- there has been no "decision" made on where he - and a great many other players for that matter- are playing. Spring practice will help iron a lot of the position jockeying.

How do you know here have been no decisions?

Decisions are always made in the offseason. They're not locked in stone but coaches have a good idea of who is playing where.

No more than any other high school I suspect. The players transitioning from football to basketball are always in the toughest spot because of the overlap. Much less so in the other sports. Got a lot of football players playing baseball. Several do track and field as well.

Interesting. I just haven't seen it before that's all.

Bluedad - When does 'spring practice' start? Is there a spring game? If so, do you know when?

Yes- they do have a very good idea. But to insinuate that a firm decision has been made for every player- let alone CVH, as has been portrayed here- is inaccurate.

Not sure yet. Last years Spring Practice ran from 4/8 - 4/27 but that was after Spring Break which happened the week prior (3/28-4/3)

This year Spring Break runs 4/17-4/21. So they could do Spring Practice the weeks prior to Spring Break, or just after Spring Break.

The Spring Game would typically be the last Saturday of Spring practice.
