January 13, 201412 yr I don't know, but let's not get carried away. It's not like Manning has been playing with incompetent coaches his whole career. Dungy and Fox are pretty dang good. Manning gets all the credit for his team's successes, yet whenever anyone mentions Brady, all I hear is how they win because of BB and the defense. He deserves a large part of the credit, don't ya think? I do, I just think head to head match ups of QB's or even Pitchers are at best sketchy...it's not like they compete directly against the other player. But fans will jump all over it if it favors "Their" QB, but hey that's just being a fan.
January 13, 201412 yr I've never hated a player for beating a team I support. I have hated a player based on how they acted on or off the field. I've never seen Manning act like a punk on or off the field so I don't understand the venom.

They may not compete "directly" in that one has a say in how the other one performs during an individual play, but if you think these guys don't relish going against each other, you're crazy. If Peyton opens up the game with a long drive for a TD, isn't Brady automatically trying to one-up that? Frankly, pitchers do this too. And if QB v. QB didn't matter, why is that almost always the first thing a gambler looks at when deciding who to back? Let's see … Phillip Rivers v. Andy Dalton in the playoffs? Pretty easy choice.
January 13, 201412 yr Playoff-QB Rating 87.2 Career-QB Rating 95.7 Playoff-QB Rating 88.4 Career-QB Rating 97.2 Pretty Similar numbers for Manning and Brady Regular Season and Playoffs

True they complete against each others teams but if they are getting caught up in competing one on one for stats instead of what is needed to win the game they are pretty weak minded...and neither of these guys is weak minded. How about Andy Daulton vs Tom Brady this season how did that work out, Bengals won because Daulton is sooo much better than Brady right? Eli is miles better than Brady too I guess.

Perhaps, but Manning did get caught up in single-season record chases this year. Topping who? Yep, Tom Brady. How about Andy Daulton vs Tom Brady this season how did that work out, Bengals won because Daulton is sooo much better than Brady right? Eli is miles better than Brady too I guess. I think you're missing the overall point. Brady v. Manning has taken on a life of its own because of the facts that they are two of the greatest of all-time, and have met so frequently in the playoffs over the years. They have a big rivalry that has proven bigger than the teams involved, from an historical standpoint, encompassing three franchises and a number of big-money games. Piggybacking on that, I don't think individual one-upmanship in a meeting between a Peyton and Brady are necessarily detrimental to the team, as long as it's done within the overall gameplan. They're still trying to win the game first, right? How many TD passes did Brady have Saturday? As many as he needed to throw. As far as you mentioning Dalton and the Bengals beating NE this year, well, these things happen in the NFL. If all things are equal, I'd still take the Pats nine times out of 10 against the Bengals as long as Andy Dalton is at the helm in Cincy.
January 13, 201412 yr Brady play much D? What do you think Brady's record against Bilicheck would be if these QB's switched places? Brady is a great QB but the difference in W's and L's here is Bilicheck is a MUCH better coach and game planner than just about anyone in the league. Belicheck got fired before as a coach. Belicheck lost to a bad Bengals squad to start the 2001 season, a season that they ended up winning the super bowl. However that lost came when Bledsoe was the QB. The Pats and Belicheck became great once Brady took over. Manning for most years had better offensive talent around him to help him put up big numbers. Brady has won Super Bowls with not much talent on offense, and Brady has put up huge numbers too like Manning once he has talent on offense around him like Manning. Belicheck failed as a coach before Brady came into his life. Brady and Manning are great QB, however I do think Brady has to get the nod on who is the better QB. Both made their teams and coaches look even better once they got to their teams.
January 13, 201412 yr What I take out of it as a football fan is that we have been treated to watching two of the best QBs ever to play the game in the same era, and watch their teams play against one another. I am more than thrilled that we have this matchup next weekend.

I, for one, was thinking the worst as Brady was driving the Patriots on that final drive in the monsoon. Was very surprised that he threw that pick.

Was very surprised that he threw that pick. Especially against what was a very good Bengals defense this year, no QB could have been particularly effective having to come up big in those conditions.
January 13, 201412 yr I've never hated a player for beating a team I support. I have hated a player based on how they acted on or off the field. I've never seen Manning act like a punk on or off the field. Same here. Being a UK fan, Manning repeatedly thrashed UK's defense (yeah, I know, many QB's did) yet I never recall him taunting, show boating or whatever. He seemed to succeed with class and I respected him for that.
January 13, 201412 yr I used to have a strong disdain for Manning. His personality used to always rub me the wrong way. Over time though I started to like Manning and he is must watch television. I think it all turned around with his SNL appearance for me. :lol2:Dude is hilarious. I did not see him on SNL, but I felt exactly the same way about Peyton that you did. I used to think he was showboating while he was jumping around when he was changing the plays at the LOS. Somewhere down the line I started realizing that "he" was running the show and not the coaches. Peyton always credits his lineman and receivers for the success of his team and the accomplishments of his individual records. Mannings are nothing but class!

This is the best clip of his hosting: http://www.nbc.com/saturday-night-live/video/united-way/n12129
January 13, 201412 yr Don't know anything about him as a person, think he's hysterical when he's doing commercials or SNL. Can't stand him as a player, never have. Something about him makes me hope for the worst when he's playing. Part of it is most likely my love of the Patriots, although he's been almost an automatic win for NE the last 10-12 years. :idunno: GEEZ, did he run over your cat, hit your dog, slapped your monkey?
