Is it possible that any KY HS football coach would be considered for UL job?

Featured Replies

I think there are a number of coaches in KY that have proven to be excellent coaches and achieved great things over long periods of time. Are some of these coaches ready for the next big step? These types of steps have occured befor, so it not unpressadented . . .

Gerry Faust went to ND . . . Granted that was a few years ago and the results were less than expected, however, the best of the HS coaches today are very, very good!

Less than zero chance.

I have first hand knowledge that Gerry was not a good choice to be the ND coach. He was a great high school coach, but was tremendously overwhelmed at the major college level. His approach was good for teenagers, but not for grown men. Even if he had the X's and O's to make the move (which he really didn't), understanding how to deal with your players is a huge part of managing a program. Trust me, as a person, I love Gerry. I'm all for a HS coach paying his dues as an assistant coach and getting a feel for the college game and earning the right to be considered as a college head coach.

It would be tough to go straight to being a HC of a Division 1 school from high school. But I'll play along, Beatty and Wallace are two names that jump out at me.

It's all about the right fit, Kevin Wright had his struggles when he was the OC at WKU for a year but has been a very good high school HC. The situation is key.

Gerry's main problem.....was taking about 7 (the # I've heard) other high school coaches along with him.

Nah! I'm at a Zero chance as well.....

Dale?

Straight to UL head coach. Absolutely not! That said, there are many that could coach division 1 football and do a great job. Over time the coach would be able to learn the ins and outs of the NCAA rules and the workings of a college program. They could then become a D1 head coach. Football is football.

Why would you hire a Head Coach who is never supposed to recruit to a position where the only way he can stock his team is through recruiting? Head Coach at a D1 program has little to do with Xs and Os........it is about managing a Program.

Kinda like what Kerry Combs is doing at Ohio State. He will be a head coach sooner than later if that is what he wants IMO. I equate Dale as the same as Combs was in high school. Great coach and motivator and tremendous communicator. Combs had a different ambition in life than Dale did. I am glad Dale took the route he did.

Folks forget Todd Dodge went directly from Southlake Carroll to North Texas. It is rare at this level. I don't think it will happen

Southlake Carroll probably has a biggest football budget than North Texas...

Not division 1 but Campbellsville hired Paducah Tilghmans coach a few years ago.
