January 6, 201412 yr I think it makes sense, all other things being close to equal, to go with a coach from the existing program. (as long as it is successful). There is less interruption, as each coach likes to do things (including evaluating talent, establishing rules for conduct, installing schemes, etc.) his own way. It may take a new coach from outside the program a couple of years to get things done his way. Whoever the new coach is, I doubt if he will be able to recruit Florida as well as Strong did.
January 6, 201412 yr I agree, but I have heard he's not real happy with the brass at OKST. If I were Jurich, the first guy I'd contact is James Franklin. I'm not sure he'd be interested, but I think it'd be a step up for him (he'd have a much better shot at a national title at UofL), and the dude can flat out coach. I agree on Franklin. Though you would think he could do better than UL. And that is not meant as a shot at UL. But with the conference change it could widen his perspective.

Bedford's only been a coordinator for five seasons (UofL and Okla. St.) and I don't feel like we know much about his defensive philosophy inasmuch as its independence from Strong's. Seems like a big risk to take at a pretty critical juncture in program history. I understand that concern. I think he would bring a lot of energy and he is in place to keep things rolling. Not sure we would lose a lot of coaches I know of 3 that would stau.

Energy certainly wouldn't be a problem. I feel like those press conferences would be a complete 180 from the Strong era. I like Bedford and have faith in Jurich to do his job very well. If he's ultimately satisfied and excited by what he hears in an interview with Bedford, I'd be 100 percent behind it. In the end, I guess there are going to be serious question marks with any coordinator as regards the other side of the ball. In truth, over his four seasons, I don't know that it can be said Strong ever adequately answered those questions and his initial feeling about what would work was never really answered; the Strong era didn't really take off until he fired his first OC and hired Watson.

January 6, 201412 yr Do we know who the interviewees are? Typically Jurich calls those close to the candidates before he calls and talks with them So I willing to bet once he checks out everyone there will be only one that will interview - oustside of the Cordinators
